About The Position

Anticipated openings for the 2026-2027 School Year. The Maryland School for the Deaf provides an inclusive, language-rich environment for deaf and hard of hearing students from birth through age 21. Rooted in a bilingual education approach, we ensure full access to American Sign Language and English across comprehensive academic, extracurricular, and student life programs. In partnership with families and communities, we empower students to think critically and develop a sense of self and belonging. The After School Program Teacher Aide's responsibility is to design, plan, and implement a comprehensive, educational after school program in order to promote the physical, cognitive, mental, emotional, and social behavioral growth of Deaf students and Deaf students.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Fluency in ASL and written English required.
  • Knowledge of students with additional disabilities and ability to teach students on different levels and with varying educational background required.
  • New hires are subject to a criminal background investigation at their own expense.
  • Candidates will need to provide three letters of recommendation with their application.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of Deaf Community preferred.
  • Experience in working with deaf and hard of hearing students desired.

Responsibilities

  • Use American Sign Language (ASL) as the primary means of communication with students to facilitate the learning process on a daily basis.
  • Work with students to ensure their needs are adequately met on a daily basis.
  • Prep, help, plan, and implement daily activities.
  • Check with school secretary for daily ASP attendance, parent notes, and make sure students are picked up accordingly.
  • Responsible for activities, supervision, safety, and conflict intervention/resolution of all students involved during ASP.
  • Drive students to field trips, supervise, and drive them back to school.
  • Clean up After School Program area or other sites used before getting off from work.
  • Communicate with parents of After School Program students about upcoming activities or daily behavior when necessary.
