About The Position

Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. Enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society. This role serves a diverse population of students, including those in state/federal programs and general education. The teacher will establish and maintain professional relationships with parents, students, colleagues, and community members, and abide by the Alief ISD Code of Civility. Maintaining an acceptable attendance rate of 94% annually is required. Regular communication with students, parents, colleagues, and administrators is expected. The teacher will plan and participate in meetings and provide documentation for students regarding admissions, reviews, progress, grades, dismissals, and conferences. Compliance with state and federal laws, district policies, rules, regulations, and administrative directives is mandatory.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from accredited university
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements or training for subject and level assigned
  • Current ESL Certification: ESL Certification required within (2) years of employment beginning with teachers hired in the 2010-2011 school year
  • Demonstrated competency in the core academic subject area assigned
  • Completion of student teaching or approved internship
  • Maintain an acceptable attendance rate – 94% annually (excluding approved leaves and emergencies).
  • Maintain an appropriate level of technology competence to meet the current and future needs of Alief.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and teach a program of study in accordance with the Texas Education Agency (TEA), district mandates and curricula.
  • Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the requirements of the Texas Education Agency (TEA) and district’s curriculum program.
  • Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, equipment, and technology that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students.
  • Implement instructional, linguistic, and/or modifications and accommodations per ARD, LPAC, Section 504, and RtI committees for students receiving services under all district, state and federal guidelines.
  • Work cooperatively with special education teachers and interventionists to modify curricula as needed for struggling general education students and special education students according to guidelines established in Individual Education Plans (IEP).
  • Work with other members of staff to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods according to district requirements.
  • Diagnose the learning needs of all students and seek the assistance of building and district leadership for appropriate intervention methods, techniques and strategies.
  • Assess the on-going accomplishments and needs of students, maintain appropriate records, and provide immediate feedback and progress reports.
  • Administer state assessments as appropriate to student population.
  • Utilize small group instruction.
  • Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned.
  • Sponsor outside activities approved by the campus principal.
  • Act as a positive role model for students and support the mission of the school district.
  • Create an inviting, risk-free, supportive, and warm learning environment appropriate to the developmental level and interests of students.
  • Implement an appropriate and effective discipline management system for the classroom in alignment with building and district policies and/or rules governing student conduct.
  • Manage student behavior in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.
  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Assist in selecting books, equipment, and other instructional materials.
  • Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required.
  • Participate in professional development activities to improve job-related skills.
  • Comply with state, district, and federal laws; district and campus regulations and policies for classroom teachers.
  • Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
  • Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
  • Maintain an appropriate level of technology competence to meet the current and future needs of Alief.
  • Implement alternative methods of instruction as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Direct the work of any assigned instructional aide(s).

Benefits

  • Probationary contract – 187 days plus 4 days of Alief U professional development for a teacher new to the district
  • Minimum teacher salary is $66,500 (base $64,100 + $2,400 Teacher Retention Allotment (TRA) Stipend)
  • Salary is based on 187 days.
