Under limited supervision, plans and presents innovative, developmentally appropriate opportunities for students to learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to the development of students' academic abilities. Specific Duties and Responsibilities include planning a program of study that meets the needs, interests and abilities of students, creating a classroom environment conducive to learning, planning and preparing lesson plans and related activities, guiding the learning process toward achievement of curriculum goals, employing a variety of instructional techniques and media, grading student work, maintaining accurate records, assessing student accomplishments, reporting suspected disabilities, supervising teaching assistants and/or volunteers, maintaining positive relationships with parents, maintaining inventory of classroom supplies and equipment, coordinating and/or participating in special programs, attending staff meetings, participating in staff in-service training and continuing education, and making arrangements for substitute instructors. The role also involves operating various types of machinery and equipment including a computer, printer, copier, laminating machine, fax machine, audio-visual equipment, tape player, and various curriculum-specific equipment or instruments.
