About The Position

This position works under general direction and requires considerable knowledge of teacher education. The role involves providing instruction in basic education needs such as reading, writing, and mathematics, assessing the educational needs of inmates, and developing lesson plans to address those needs. The teacher will provide instruction and individual assistance, administer, score, and interpret examinations, and maintain discipline and security. Additionally, the role includes counseling students, attending meetings, preparing records and reports, managing supplies and materials, and recommending new teaching materials. Professional development through in-service training and workshops is also part of the role, along with performing other assigned duties.

Requirements

• Current Teacher Certificate appropriate for grade level & area of specialization to be assigned
• Teacher 1, 71111, must also have baccalaureate degree or less

Responsibilities

• Provides instruction in basic education needs (e.g., reading writing mathematics)
• Assesses educational needs of inmates
• Develops lesson plans to address those needs to include individual assignments and training
• Provides instruction and individual assistance
• Administers, scores and interprets examinations and proficiency indicators
• Maintains discipline and/or security
• Counsels students concerning their performance, behavior and/or personal problems.
• Attends meetings as required
• Prepares required records and reports (e.g., enrollment, grades, student progress)
• Inventories and orders supplies and materials needed
• Researches, selects, and recommends new teaching materials.
• Attends in-service training sessions and workshops for professional development
• Performs other duties as assigned
