About The Position

This position works under direction and requires considerable knowledge of teacher education to instruct youth in graphic/media arts at Circleville Juvenile Correctional Facility (CJCF). The role involves providing individualized remedial instruction and training, assessing educational needs (e.g., IEPs, MFEs), and developing lesson plans. The teacher will administer and score examinations, maintain discipline and security, counsel students on academic performance and behavior, and document progress. Responsibilities also include forwarding student performance reports to appropriate staff, participating in institutional treatment activities, managing the classroom to foster respect and engagement, and modeling excellent interpersonal skills. The role requires preparing and maintaining records, submitting reports, attending meetings and training, and performing other teacher duties as assigned. Additionally, the teacher is responsible for classroom equipment maintenance, preparing work orders, and annually preparing budgetary proposals, requisitions, and inventories.

Requirements

  • Must meet eligibility requirements for Teacher Certificate/License appropriate for career-tech - graphic arts & grade level as assigned.
  • Teacher 1, 71471, must also have baccalaureate degree or less per OEA agreement.
  • Applicant must successfully obtain Teacher Certificate or License prior to employment.

  • All final candidates are required to attend 3 weeks of mandatory, paid training at the Correctional Training Academy in Orient, Ohio.

Responsibilities

  • Instruct youth in graphic/media arts.
  • Provide individualized remedial instruction and training to students.
  • Assess educational needs of youth, including IEPs and MFEs.
  • Develop lesson plans based on student analysis and approved courses of study.
  • Provide instruction in graphic/media arts and individual assistance.
  • Administer, score, and interpret examination and proficiency indicators.

  • Prepare and maintain required records (e.g., electronic grade books, daily attendance, inventory).
  • Submit reports as required by Department of Youth Services and CJCF policy and procedure.
  • Attend a variety of meetings, workshops, in-service training, and formal education programs.
  • Perform other teacher duties as assigned.
  • Responsible for the care and maintenance of all classroom equipment and learning aides.
  • Prepare work orders when required.
  • Annually prepare budgetary proposals, requisitions for new educational resources, and maintain necessary inventories of classroom supplies.
