About The Position

This position is with the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction. The agency's mission is to reduce recidivism among those they touch, believing that everyone is capable of positive change. Staff are expected to serve as role models for pro-social behavior, conveying dignity and respect. The department is tasked with front-line crime reduction through rehabilitative treatment and programming in a safe, secure, and humane correctional environment, with the goal of protecting the public by helping individuals turn away from crime and become productive members of the community.

Requirements

• Must meet eligibility requirements for Teacher Certificate/License appropriate for career-tech - graphic arts & grade level as assigned.
• Applicant must successfully obtain Teacher Certificate or License prior to employment.
• Baccalaureate degree or less per OEA agreement (for Teacher 1, 71471).

Responsibilities

• Provides instruction in graphic arts and individual assistance.
• Assesses educational needs of inmates.
• Develops lesson plans to address those needs, including individual assignments and training.
• Administers, scores, and interprets examinations and proficiency indicators.
• Maintains discipline and/or security.
• Counsels students concerning their performance, behavior, and/or personal problems.
• Attends meetings as required.
• Prepares required records and reports (e.g., enrollment, grades, student progress).
• Inventories and orders supplies and materials needed.
• Researches, selects, and recommends new teaching materials.
• Attends in-service training sessions and workshops for professional development.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
