We made history and now we work to transform the future – for our customers, our communities and our families. You'll see your work on the road every day, helping people move freely and pursue their dreams. At Ford, you can build more than vehicles. Come build what matters. Product Development uses design thinking & user experience methods to deliver breakthrough products and services that delight our customers. We bring innovative, exciting, and sustainable ideas to life. We have opportunities around the world for you to contribute to advancements in autonomy, electrification, smart mobility technologies, and more! Ford is seeking a Technical Specialist to lead the foundational development of a re-envisioned Systems Engineering (SE) architecture within our Powertrain Calibration and Controls organization. This role focuses on the development of engine, transmission, and electrified vehicle control systems. The successful candidate will lead the establishment of new systems engineering frameworks from the ground floor, prioritizing rigorous systems engineering principles and Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) methodologies. This position requires a deep technical background in systems engineering, experience with complex software-controlled electromechanical systems, and the ability to drive process change across multi-disciplinary teams. In this position... Architectural Development: Lead the definition and implementation of new systems engineering architectures specifically for powertrain systems, including engine, transmission, and electrified vehicle control systems. Process Standards: Contribute to global policies, procedures, and process documentation for MBSE and systems engineering within the powertrain domain. Technical Design Reviews: Lead Technical Design Reviews (TDRs) for complex systems and system-level modeling, and drive technical discussions to balanced conclusions. Technical Subject Matter Expert: Serve as the primary technical lead for resolving complex systems engineering challenges in architecting, development, and detailed design. MBSE Oversight: Provide oversight within the propulsion controls and calibration area for the creation and maintenance of Core MBSE artifacts, including modeling standards and Requirements/Test Procedures.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or a related engineering field is required.
  • Minimum of 10 years of engineering experience, with at least 5 years focused on Systems Engineering, Systems Architecture, or Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE).
  • Demonstrated expertise in systems thinking, Failure Mode Avoidance (FMA), and formal Systems Engineering methodologies to solve complex problems.
  • Proven history of evaluating and improving engineering processes, with a demonstrated ability to challenge and replace non-value-added deliverables.
  • Ability to lead and align multi-disciplinary teams and effectively communicate technical positions to all levels of management.
  • Proven history of evaluating technical choices and directing teams based on technical ideals balanced with industrialization realities.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in Systems, Electrical, Mechanical, or a related engineering field is preferred.
  • INCOSE certification (CSEP or ESEP) or OMG certifications in MBSE modeling are preferred.
  • Prior automotive and powertrain-specific experience is desired but considered secondary to the mastery of systems engineering principles.
  • Proficiency in UML and SysML modeling languages preferred. Experience in Model-Based Systems Engineering development utilizing MagicDraw/3DX toolkit is preferred.
  • Basic software/script development in Python or other development environments is preferred.

Responsibilities
