About The Position

We are looking for a highly motivated tax professional with a focus on affordable housing, Sec. 42 / Low-Income Housing Tax Credit compliance, to join our team as either a Senior Tax Associate or Tax Supervisor. Placement will be determined based on the depth and breadth of the candidate’s experience, qualifications, and leadership capabilities. Both positions are responsible for delivering high-quality tax services; however, the Tax Supervisor role involves additional responsibilities related to engagement oversight, technical review, staff development, and team leadership. The Senior Tax Associate role will ideally spend 70%-80% of their time working on Sec. 42 Low Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) compliance projects, with the remaining time working on traditional work. The candidate may be asked to help prepare traditional tax returns during peak tax season, as necessary. Responsibilities include preparing federal, state, and local tax documents, having a solid understanding of partnership taxation, conducting research on new or complex tax issues, and preparing corresponding memorandums to support conclusions. The role also involves communicating with client personnel regarding deadlines, status of engagement completion and requests for information, and guiding and training junior staff and offshore preparers. The role involves conducting research on new or complex tax issues involving affordable housing, partnership taxation, real estate, nonprofit organizations, and preparing corresponding memorandums to support conclusions. The Tax Supervisor will have a lead role in communicating and working directly with client personnel on various matters, including status of engagements, requests for information needed to complete engagements, and other tax compliance matters. This role also involves guiding, training, and developing staff and offshore preparers, and assisting with annual tax training. Both roles require updating job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities, reading professional publications, maintaining personal networks, and participating in professional organizations.

Requirements

  • At least three (3) years of tax experience in public accounting
  • Familiarity with the intricacies of IRC Sec. 42 LIHTC projects, e.g., credit calculations, first year credit projects, able to review LIHTC projects, comfortable in communicating with LP investors and the GPs
  • Solid experience working with large nonprofit developer returns (Form 990)
  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or related
  • Self-starter and successful in a fully remote setting
  • Solid understanding of basic accounting and tax practices
  • Highly motivated, exceptional organizational skills and excellent attention to detail
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office programs, especially Excel
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to successfully manage multiple engagements and time constraints

Nice To Haves

  • Solid LIHTC and traditional tax experience
  • Prior experience in traditional tax work, including high net worth individuals, trusts, corporations, etc.
  • A current CPA license is preferred but not required
  • Master’s Degree in Taxation a BIG PLUS
