As a Principal Manager at Avior Tax & Accounting, you are an experienced leader and strategic advisor who guides both clients and teams toward success. You work closely with Avior’s wealth and accounting professionals to deliver integrated, forward-thinking solutions—including estate planning, trust structures, investment tax efficiency, and entity-level planning—that help clients plan with intention and live with purpose. You bring a holistic understanding of how tax strategy intersects with wealth planning, ensuring clients receive coordinated, forward-looking advice that addresses both compliance obligations and long-term financial goals. As a Principal, you set the tone for excellence, embody Avior’s values, and play a key role in shaping the firm’s culture and future growth, redefining what integrated financial planning looks like.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field required; master’s degree in accounting or taxation preferred.
  • CPA or EA certification required; CPA or EA pending combined with an MBA or MST may be considered.
  • 10+ years of progressive public accounting experience with demonstrated leadership responsibilities.
  • Advanced expertise in individual and passthrough entity taxation and planning.
  • Demonstrated success in business development, client relationship management, and strategic planning.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP, federal, and multi-state tax regulations.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with an ability to translate complex issues into client clarity.
  • Proven experience managing projects, client relationships, and mentoring team members.
  • Expert-level proficiency in 1040 preparation and review; specialized expertise across multiple industries with ability to independently research and apply industry-specific tax rules.
  • Proven ability to manage a full practice location independently, including staff, client relationships, quality control, and office operations; strong time management and organizational skills to handle a full client book while overseeing office-wide operations.
  • Ability to work overtime as needed, particularly during peak filing seasons.
  • Commitment to continuous learning, innovation, and collaboration.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and review tax engagements for individuals, businesses, and trusts with accuracy and insight.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to clients—anticipating needs, identifying opportunities, and delivering proactive planning.
  • Collaborate across tax, accounting, and wealth teams to provide holistic client solutions.
  • Own day-to-day tax operations, quality standards, and staff coordination within your office location, while actively collaborating as a peer with Lead Principal Managers across all firm locations—sharing technical insights, workload strategies, and best practices to maintain consistent quality firm-wide.
  • Serve as a dedicated mentor and coach to tax staff at all levels, leading training sessions on complex tax topics and software tools, providing constructive feedback through formal reviews and informal coaching, and acting as the decisive technical authority when preparers reach conflicting conclusions. Proactively identify high-potential staff and create stretch opportunities to prepare them for greater responsibility.
  • Identify and drive business development opportunities, cultivating new client relationships through referrals, networking, and community engagement.
  • Contribute to the culture and success of One Avior through participation in leadership initiatives and knowledge sharing.
  • Reallocate work among teams and manage capacity to balance workloads and deadlines.
  • Provide clarity, professionalism, and care as you address internal and external challenges.
  • Stay current on tax laws, GAAP, and emerging planning opportunities through continuous learning.
  • Represent clients before the IRS, state, and local tax authorities on compliance matters, audits, and notices; apply expert knowledge of EFIN requirements, e-filing procedures, and IRS Circular 230.
  • Oversee preparation and review of complex tax returns across a full range of entity types—including individual (1040), partnership, S-corporation, C-corporation, trust, and estate—with expert knowledge of GAAP for entities up to $100M in revenue.
  • Maintain office budget, ensure adherence to all firm procedures and policies across tax staff, and provide conflict resolution for internal team issues and external client concerns.
