Churchill Summer Internship: Tax
About The Position
Churchill, an investment-specialist affiliate of Nuveen, is seeking a Tax Intern to support the tax team. This internship offers hands-on experience in tax compliance, data organization, and financial analysis within the middle market private equity sector. The intern will work with external vendors, collect and organize financial data, assist in preparing tax compliance reporting, review calculations and filings, perform reconciliations, and support ad hoc requests. This role is ideal for a student pursuing a degree in Accounting who is detail-oriented, possesses strong Excel skills, and has excellent communication and collaboration abilities.
Requirements
- Preferred candidate will be a rising Senior (Class of 2028) or rising Junior (Class of 2029) expected to graduate with a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting
- Strong attention to detail; careful review of facts and figures, quick to identify errors, ensure consistency of information
- Superior Excel skills, with demonstrated ability to express complex ideas in a clear and concise manner
- Outstanding interpersonal and written communication skills, effective and strong active listening skills
- Proven track record of success collaborating in a fast-paced, results driven team environment
- Innovative and creative thinker; ability to make connections among previously unrelated notions, ability to project how potential ideas may play out
Responsibilities
- Review of annual tax workpapers prepared by external Big 4 vendors
- Support the team with the collection and organization of financial and tax data used in tax reporting; including the logging of underlying tax reporting from portfolio companies
- Assist with the preparation and review of tax compliance reporting (Schedule K-1) for private funds
- Review of carried interest calculations
- Reviewing annual tax filings including Forms 1065, 1120, and 1120-RIC
- Reviewing annual state/local filings for multiple jurisdictions
- Perform reconciliations between accounting records and tax work papers to ensure accurate investor reporting
- Assist with internal and external requests related to investor tax reporting
- Ad hoc tax requests from Investor Relations and Operations teams
