About The Position

BDO is seeking energetic self-starters who can think and act like entrepreneurs for the Tax Intern, Core Tax Services position. This role will involve utilizing educational background and organizational skills to serve the firm's client base through the preparation of returns and extensions under the supervision of experienced professionals. Requirements

  • Enrolled in a Bachelors or Masters program in Accounting or other relevant field required.
  • Actively pursuing school credits to become a CPA.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to follow instructions as directed.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team setting.
  • Positive attitude and willingness to learn.
  • Seeks advice of appropriate superiors regarding issues related to compliance.

Nice To Haves

  • Pursuing a masters degree in Accounting or other relevant field preferred.
  • Leadership experience preferred.
  • Ability to prepare simple tax returns.

Responsibilities

  • Utilize educational background and organizational skills in the service of the firm's client base through the preparation of returns and extensions under supervision.
  • Ensure clients comply with applicable authorities while minimizing tax and reporting burdens.
  • Ensure compliance with all Firm policies, standards, and the BDO Tax Quality Manual (TQM).
  • Effectively use referencing systems and workpapers that tie to the return.
  • Complete tasks and organize files to minimize rework by reviewers.
  • Collect data to comply with filing requirements.
  • Take initiative on impending due dates/engagement letters.
  • Work with tax software applications to complete simple tax returns for review.
  • Perform quarterly estimates and prepare extensions.
  • Assist with responses to notices from the Internal Revenue Service.
  • Assist in the projection of year-end filings.
  • Correctly and proactively apply Firm policies, standards, and the TQM regarding FAS 109 and FIN 48.
  • Assist with components of income tax provisions.
  • Assist with developing, recommending, and implementing efficient and effective methods to maximize client benefits, especially by decreasing clients’ current and future taxes.
  • Operate online research tools to gather pertinent tax information.
  • Monitor tax law and client factual developments on a regular basis.
  • Develop and communicate to client service team personnel, viewpoints regarding how those developments might affect clients.
  • Perform other duties as required.
