About The Position

The Tax Senior Manager will lead a team providing operational ownership and activity direction across a full range of tax technology initiatives as a member of the tax technology, data, and digitization (T2D2) LT. This will entail working on the tax technology activities for numerous strategic tax projects including Quantum (SAP ERP replacements), Project HAL, Silverstone, and others. The T2D2 team works as a matrix organization with LT members being involved in multiple projects at any given point in time with each LT member accountable for one or more of these while working on others. The successful candidate will need to be comfortable working in an agile and matrix environment. The mission of the T2D2 team is to enable tax to continuously adapt to a changing business landscape by improving data integrity, simplifying processes, accelerating technology solutions and ensuring continuous and robust ongoing data management and control. This team works closely with a wide variety of collaborators including other functions, internal and external business partners, and other members of the tax function to identify areas for process improvement and potential automation and to design and embed streamlined processes and controls through digital solutions. The work involves driving positive change in tax through technology and process optimization, coordinating agile teams, as well as gathering end user requirements and exploring and implementing solutions for bp to deliver more efficient and standardized tax processes.

Requirements

  • Extensive years of relevant experience in finance / tax transformation with an in depth understanding of business transformation projects and approaches - particularly technology, data and process change, setup and operationalization.
  • Strong SAP Financials knowledge – ideally S4Hana - with knowledge of other SAP modules – particularly Procurement – a strong benefit
  • Understanding of AI fundamentals including MS Copilot and/or other genAI tools.
  • Detailed understanding of core finance / tax technology concepts and activities with good experience)
  • Strong relationship building and partner management skills across business and technology domains – and with internal and external business partners.
  • Solid ability to take the initiative to create opportunities for improvement and problem resolution.
  • Proven experience in understanding, compiling, and improving established policies and procedures through collaboration with support teams.
  • Strong analytical and documentation skills, attention-to-detail, and self-starter.
  • Excellent business verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to influence others to accomplish initiatives.
  • Able to lead multiple projects and prioritise effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to lead in a matrix organization environment.
  • Demonstrable experience with agile methodologies.

Responsibilities

  • Act as the tax technology lead for one or more of our pivotal initiatives – including driving development and ownership of design, testing and delivery for all tax data related activity. This includes the supporting engagement, prioritization, resourcing, funding and governance activities needed to ensure effective and efficient operation and delivery in line with bp tax and wider bp strategic objectives.
  • Actively participate in all relevant forums for the strategic initative(s), as the tax technology single point of contact (SPoC), ensuring tax requirements and drivers are explicitly included in all discussions.
  • Act as delegate for the VP T2D2 in all relevant forums as required.
  • Actively work with key partners to promote the T2D2 agenda and ensure the organisation’s talent strategy and pipeline will deliver the skills required of future tax professionals - with a particular focus on technology and data related activities.
  • Support the development of the 3-5 year business vision and roadmap for tax technology
  • For the initiative(s) being led, ensure alignment of tax technology interests and data requirements with other strategic bp projects and activities to drive efficiency and effectiveness across BP and minimize duplication of effort.
  • Embed, coach and develop team members to ensure a cohesive and effective development of strategy to tackle complex problems, working with specialists outside of the function to ensure deployment of the very best expertise and alignment of organisational priorities.
  • Actively support the development of closer relationships with executives from FBT, Big 4 partners, bp technology and the broader finance function to inform, develop and deploy effective organisational investment to address data and digital opportunities aligned with the tax technology critical initiatives.

  • Partner with colleagues to actively support (1) the continued deployment of operational modernisation and (2) cultural and behavioural change across group tax and our key business partners to ensure a collective approach to embedding standard process, technologies and ways of working in line with bp strategy.
  • Ensure tax technology investment is prioritised and spent appropriately to realise the greatest value for BP.
