About The Position

Raymond James Ltd. is seeking a Tax Consulting Manager to provide tax consulting expertise and ongoing support to financial advisors and their clients at Raymond James Ltd. and Raymond James (USA) Ltd. This role offers the opportunity to be a key resource in one of Canada’s largest markets, joining an established team of wealth management professionals. The successful candidate will provide guidance and planning solutions for cross-border tax issues, including US citizenship, residency, estate tax, gift tax, immigration, emigration, and tax planning with US retirement plans. The position also supports business development by enhancing the client experience through an understanding of tax and compliance complexities for cross-border taxpayers. Additionally, the candidate must be knowledgeable in Canadian planning strategies for High Net Worth (HNW) clients, such as trust planning, business succession, estate freezes, RCAs and IPPs, holding companies, and charitable gift planning.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, Finance or related field, or an equivalent combination of experience and education.
  • Completion of the CICA In-Depth Tax Course, Part I, II and III or Master’s in Taxation.
  • Accounting designation (CPA) required.
  • At least 7 years of public practice experience in US personal tax, Canadian personal tax, Canadian corporate and trust tax, and estate tax planning.
  • Experience building relationships through respect and authenticity, and collaborating with a diverse network of clients, prospects and business partners to create exceptional client experiences and solutions.
  • Experience identifying and resolving diverse, complex, and ambiguous issues in a timely and practical manner using exceptional critical thinking and analytical skills.
  • Successful recruit will be required to complete the US Chartered Retirement Planning Counselor designation (CRPC) or equivalent US planning designation within a reasonable time frame.

Nice To Haves

  • US CPA designation would be an asset.
  • Experience working with IRS withholding tax forms, US and Canadian withholding tax on entitlements, and US retirement plan rules would be an asset.
  • CFP (F.Pl.) and/or TEP designation would be an asset.
  • Bilingual (French and English) skills would be an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver tax consulting services for personal, corporate, trust, and estate clients of Raymond James and its affiliated companies in Canada and the US through client meetings and written analysis, in conjunction with financial advisors.
  • Partner effectively with investment advisory teams, trust company division trust officers, charitable foundations, insurance agents, tax preparation services, and financial planners to offer comprehensive planning solutions.
  • Respond to daily income tax planning and cross-border tax questions concisely and timely, using current and suitable research sources.
  • Assist with authoring client releasable educational materials on Canadian and cross-border tax planning via written materials, presentations, and social media.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge and understanding of the Income Tax Act, the Internal Revenue Code, and international income tax conventions.
  • Provide outstanding client service to financial advisors and their clients by enhancing the client experience.
  • Support financial planners with technical tax inquiries and reviews of cross-border financial plans.
  • Review advisor-prepared marketing materials with tax content for accuracy and clarity.
  • Liaise with outside tax and legal professionals to assist with tax strategy implementation.
  • Perform other duties and projects as assigned.
