About The Position

This role oversees State Direct Tax Compliance processes for Mondelēz International in the U.S., including income tax compliance, projections, forecasting, state tax planning, audit defense, and accounting for income tax requirements. The position involves managing day-to-day compliance, coordinating with outside service providers, gathering and analyzing information, and preparing supporting workpapers. It also includes overseeing state accounting for income taxes, reviewing rates, calculating adjustments, and ensuring compliance with tax laws and U.S. GAAP. The role requires leading state tax audits, managing auditor relationships, and responding to information requests. Additionally, the manager will monitor tax legislative events, tax planning, and business initiative developments, providing ongoing income tax guidance and support to management. A key aspect is developing and improving direct tax compliance processes and contributing to a high-performing Tax team.

Requirements

  • TECHNICAL EXPERTISE in U.S. state and local tax laws and regulations; U.S. GAAP tax accounting; tax policy and procedures; and tax compliance and audit defense processes.
  • BUSINESS ACUMEN and understanding of our business and finance beyond the tax scope.
  • Relevant state direct tax experience.
  • LEADERSHIP SKILLS including proven business partnering and communication skills across a large global, public company.
  • GROWTH/DIGITAL MINDSET and the ability to identify strategic opportunities and leverage technology to improve operational efficiency and effectiveness.
  • INTEGRITY and sound judgement in all decisions and interactions aligned with our values and policies and external regulations.
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting required.
  • Minimum 5-7+ years of state tax experience including compliance review and audit defense.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and online tax research tools (CCH, BNA, and/or RIA).
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present and communicate to non-tax individuals.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to accurately, completely, and timely meet project deadlines.
  • Desire to grow and take on a leadership role with strong intellectual curiosity.
  • Experience performing tax work in a large public accounting firm or large publicly traded multinational corporation.

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced degree in accounting or taxation preferred.
  • Experience in U.S. Federal and tax accounting (ASC 740).

Responsibilities

  • Manage the day-to-day State Direct Tax Compliance processes, including coordinating with outside service providers on state tax return preparation and filings.
  • Gather and analyze information needed by external service providers and prepare supporting workpapers.
  • Oversee state accounting for income taxes, including reviewing and updating blended state rates, and reviewing/calculating tax adjustments.
  • Ensure compliance with tax laws and U.S. GAAP requirements.
  • Lead state tax audits, managing relationships with state tax auditors and responding to information requests.
  • Ensure state tax compliance requirements for the U.S. are timely and accurately met.
  • Ensure tax policies are followed, including internal standards on completion dates, record retention, and workpaper support.
  • Monitor tax legislative events, tax-planning, and business initiative developments.
  • Provide management with ongoing income tax guidance and support.
  • Develop and continually improve direct tax compliance processes and ways of working.
  • Contribute to a high performing Tax team in the U.S.
