About The Position

Metrc is the most trusted and experienced provider of cannabis regulatory systems in the United States and is growing extremely rapidly to expand globally. We provide a solution that combines advanced software, radio-frequency identification (RFID) technology, a dedicated customer-support team, and a secure database to track and trace cannabis from growth, harvest, and processing to testing, transport, and sale. As a Tax & Compliance Accountant, you will have the opportunity to thrive in a fast-moving, fluid environment, and be passionate about implementing change, great processes and procedures in a commercial setting at a fast-growing technology company.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • 3+ years of experience in multi-state tax compliance, corporate compliance, or a similar role
  • Experience working across a multi-entity, multi-state organizational structure
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Proficient in MS Excel
  • Experience with ERP software, NetSuite preferred
  • Experience with Sales Tax software, Vertex preferred
  • Exceptional time management, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team setting
  • Can work independently and without supervision when required
  • Must be able to work on-site 3 days per week in our Lakeland, FL office

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate with the third-party income tax filer, preparing deliverables to ensure returns are filed accurately and on time
  • Process income tax payments
  • Support the sales tax compliance relationship and monitor sales tax accounts across multiple states and entities
  • Prepare tax-related reconciliations, accruals, and journal entries as part of monthly close.
  • Maintain and submit required state reporting to ensure compliance with government contracts
  • Maintain corporate registrations, including state registrations, business licenses, and tax registrations
  • Maintain the compliance calendar covering filing deadlines, renewals, and registrations across all jurisdictions
  • Respond to state notices and support tax audits and information requests
  • Monitor nexus and tax law changes as we enter new states and add entities, and register where required
  • Support improvements to and automation of compliance processes as the state and entity footprint grows
