About The Position
The Tax Audit Accountant supports internal and external sales tax audits by analyzing and providing supporting data and reports. The role helps align business operations with sales tax requirements across the United States. It also supports use tax reviews, account reconciliations, tax research, and resolution of audit-related issues with the indirect tax compliance team and business partners.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, information systems, or a related field.
- 0 to 2 years of experience in indirect tax with audit experience preferred.
- Excellent organization and critical-thinking skills, with the ability to independently prioritize multiple tasks and complete projects.
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment and work under pressure with a sense of urgency.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to perform basic tax-law research and understand general taxability concepts.
- Ability to make sound judgment decisions and work with integrity and strong analytical skills.
- Strong understanding of sales tax systems such as Vertex, Avalara, Sabrix/OneSource, or other tax engines, or the ability to quickly learn new systems that support sales tax compliance data.
- Proficiency in collecting and analyzing complex data sets and ability to interpret and summarize data.
Nice To Haves
- Experience with CCH or Avalara.
- Experience with Power BI, Alteryx, or other automation tools.
Responsibilities
- Obtain and provide requested audit documentation.
- Perform taxability research and review audit workpapers.
- Recommend corrective actions based on audit results.
- Partner with the indirect tax compliance team and business partners to resolve sales tax issues identified in audits.
- Reconcile simple tax accounts and recommend ways to address account variances.
- Assist with use tax reviews and research tax laws to analyze and recommend their application to internal leadership.
- Collect, analyze, interpret, and summarize complex data sets.
