Investment accounting focus will primarily be on custodian bank reporting and reconciliations, expense processing, investment valuations and cash flow. This role offers broad exposure to the tax life cycle of a specialty insurance company — from quarterly provision through annual compliance — working directly with Tax and Investment directors, as well as external advisors. It is well suited to a candidate early in their career who wants hands-on experience across GAAP and statutory tax accounting, federal and state compliance, and investment tax data.

  • 0–2 years of relevant experience in public accounting, corporate tax, or a finance/accounting role; new graduates with relevant internship or coursework experience are encouraged to apply
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel; comfort working with large data sets
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and willingness to learn
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines and communicate clearly with internal teams and external advisors

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the preparation of the quarterly and annual income tax provisions under ASC 740 (including interim reporting under ASC 740-270) for the consolidated group

  • Assist in documenting provision workpapers and responding to auditor requests
  • Support the preparation and review of federal and state income tax returns prepared by the group's external tax preparer, including gathering data, preparing PBC (prepared-by-client) items, and tracking open requests
  • Process premium tax returns and estimated payments prepared by the group's external premium tax provider, including routing for review, signature, and funding, and record all filings and payments in the department's tax compliance tracking system
  • Reconcile the tax compliance tracker to the general ledger on a recurring basis and maintain the tax calendar across federal, state, and specialty filing deadlines
  • Perform monthly custodian par and general ledger account reconciliations.
  • Support periodic valuations of limited partnership and structure note holdings.
  • Process investment manager and custodian bank invoices.
  • Maintain and monitor statutory state deposits, track balances against regulatory requirements and supporting additions, substitutions, or releases as needed.
