About The Position

The Tax Advisor leads the tax service side of relationships with client families at The Planning Center, a fee-only fiduciary financial planning firm. The role works year-round alongside CFP® professionals, financial planners, and other tax professionals to help clients make informed decisions before transactions create tax consequences. The work focuses on proactive tax planning and meaningful client relationships rather than audit, accounting, billable-hour tracking, or business development. The position includes tax projections and multi-year planning, such as Roth conversion analysis, retirement distribution planning, equity compensation planning, and charitable giving strategies. The Tax Advisor reviews federal and multi-state returns prepared by others, prepares more complex returns, and conducts tax law research as needed. The role also involves continuing professional development to expand knowledge and stay current with tax changes. The position offers compensation of $90,000 to $135,000, depending on qualifications, experience, and demonstrated expertise. Work hours are flexible, with the ability to work from home approximately two days per week. Tax season overtime is limited, though the workload generally averages approximately 55 hours per week during tax season.
