We are seeking a professional and customer-focused Task Force Director of Engineering to oversee our hotel Engineering Department at one of our assigned hotels. We are quickly adding hotels to our portfolio and are preparing for future growth opportunities. This role will likely lead to a permanent placement in one of our new or existing hotels. Our hotels are located in Florida (Marriott Orlando Downtown & Miami Doubletree Convention Center); Upstate NY (Hilton Albany, Delta by Marriott Utica, Doubletree Rochester), CT (Doubletree Bradley Airport), NJ (Ocean Place Resort & Spa), OH (Columbus Embassy Suites), IL (HGI Chicago), IN (Doubletree South Bend). Our ideal Taskforce Director of Engineering candidate must possess extensive knowledge of hotel engineering operations, a positive attitude, and the proven skills to oversee all operations activities and departments in the hotel in order to maximize revenue, deliver a positive guest experience and create a team atmosphere that promotes learning and excellence. This position will require travel with extended time to the assigned hotel. The position will also be required to be at the Corporate Offices in Great Neck, NY. JOB SUMMARY The Area Chief Engineer / Director of Engineering provides strategic and operational leadership for engineering, maintenance, life safety, and physical plant operations for the hotel and, when assigned, additional properties within the portfolio. This role is responsible for protecting the hotel asset through effective oversight of building systems, preventive maintenance, capital improvement planning, contractor management, regulatory compliance, and engineering team development. This leader ensures that all mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, refrigeration, and life safety systems are maintained and operated in a safe, efficient, and guest-ready manner. The Area Chief Engineer / Director of Engineering partners closely with property leadership to improve guest satisfaction, reduce downtime, manage departmental expenses, support renovation and capital projects, and ensure brand and company standards are consistently upheld. This position also provides oversight for public space appearance, back-of-house functionality, and operational readiness, ensuring all areas reflect a clean, safe, and well-maintained environment for guests and team members. General Requirements Strong leadership, organizational, and strategic planning skills. Advanced knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, electrical, refrigeration, boilers, water treatment, life safety, and building automation systems. Strong knowledge of budgets, forecasting, capital planning, and preventive maintenance systems. Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, technical manuals, and compliance documentation. Strong working knowledge of OSHA requirements, Lockout/Tagout, fire/life safety procedures, hazardous materials handling, and risk prevention practices. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to lead teams across multiple disciplines and influence operational results through accountability and follow-through. Strong vendor and contractor management experience. Ability to train, mentor, coach, and develop engineering team members and subordinate leaders. Computer proficiency with maintenance systems, work order platforms, and energy management/building automation systems. DUTIES & FUNCTIONS Fundamental Responsibilities Provide leadership and direction for all engineering and maintenance operations. Oversee the safe and efficient operation of all building systems, including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, refrigeration, mechanical equipment, fire/life safety, and energy management systems. Protect and maintain the physical asset through a structured and accountable preventive maintenance program. Develop, implement, and monitor engineering standards, operating procedures, and maintenance protocols. Inspect the physical condition of the property on an ongoing basis and prioritize repairs, replacement needs, and improvement opportunities. Lead departmental planning related to repairs, renovations, deferred maintenance, and capital expenditure projects. Prepare and manage engineering budgets, labor costs, expense controls, and capital requests. Ensure accurate documentation of engineering logs, inspections, maintenance records, compliance reports, and project updates. Monitor service response times, work order completion, and maintenance quality to support guest satisfaction and operational efficiency. Maintain compliance with all company policies, brand standards, safety programs, and federal, state, and local regulations. Serve as the primary engineering contact for major building issues, emergency response, vendor coordination, and operational escalation. Oversee contractual obligations under CAM and any other relevant service or maintenance agreements. Partner with General Managers and regional leadership to support property goals, operational stability, and long-term asset preservation. Leadership & People Management Hire, train, schedule, supervise, and develop engineering team members. Establish performance expectations and hold the team accountable for productivity, professionalism, safety, and response standards. Conduct performance reviews, coaching, corrective action, and succession planning as needed. Promote teamwork and strong interdepartmental communication with Front Office, Housekeeping, Food & Beverage, and other departments. Support a culture of urgency, accountability, professionalism, and service. Operational Oversight Oversee maintenance and appearance standards for guest rooms, public areas, heart-of-house spaces, and exterior grounds. Ensure timely response to guest room maintenance issues and operational service requests. Support the upkeep of all major guest-facing and employee-facing areas, including but not limited to: Lobby, atrium, corridors, and entrances Restaurants, lounges, and Starbucks public areas, where applicable Fitness center and related equipment Pool areas, restrooms, and surrounding spaces Public restrooms and employee restrooms Employee hallways, cafeteria, offices, and back-of-house spaces Parking garages, loading docks, and exterior areas Oversee deep-cleaning and facilities support projects such as floor care, pressure washing, high dusting, carpet extraction, and seasonal maintenance efforts. Ensure proper use, storage, and maintenance of tools, machinery, supplies, and equipment. Manage inventory levels and purchasing needs for engineering supplies, parts, and related materials. Guest Focus & Service Ensure the property reflects a safe, functional, and well-maintained guest experience at all times. Respond to maintenance-related guest concerns promptly and professionally. Support hotel cleanliness, maintenance, and overall guest satisfaction scores. Assist in preparing for brand inspections, quality audits, ownership visits, and property walk-throughs. Safety & Compliance Ensure compliance with all OSHA, fire, life safety, environmental, and company safety requirements. Enforce proper PPE usage, Lockout/Tagout procedures, chemical handling, and emergency response protocols. Lead engineering participation in emergency preparedness, evacuation procedures, and incident response. Coordinate required inspections, permits, certifications, and follow-up corrective actions. Area-Level / Portfolio Responsibilities When assigned, provide engineering guidance and operational support across multiple properties. Assist regional leadership with engineering assessments, capital planning, project execution, and standardization of maintenance practices. Travel between assigned properties as needed to support operational priorities, inspections, special projects, and leadership development. Help implement best practices, preventive maintenance consistency, and engineering accountability across the assigned area. Operational Needs & Scheduling Hospitality is a 24-hour operation. Associates may be required to work varying schedules, including early mornings, evenings, overnight shifts, weekends, and holidays, based on operational needs and hotel occupancy levels. Schedules, staffing levels, and assigned duties may fluctuate to meet business demands, special events, and guest service requirements.
