About The Position

Ergon Marine & Industrial Supply, Inc. (EMIS), a subsidiary of Ergon, a family-owned oil and gas company, is seeking a Tankerman for its Wood River, IL, location. This role is ideal for individuals who enjoy hands-on work and take pride in their physical accomplishments. EMIS services vessels and tows, working collaboratively with other crews in a team environment. Unlike some marine jobs, EMIS crews do not live aboard vessels, allowing for more time at home. Ergon has facilities across the US, with EMIS supporting marine traffic on the Mississippi River at locations in Vicksburg, MS, Wood River, IL, and Memphis, TN.

Requirements

U.S. Coast Guard Merchant Mariner's Document with P.I.C. endorsement
Valid TWIC card
Valid Driver's License
Must be able to swim
Ability to work in any environment (heat, cold, rain, etc.)
Must pass a routine background check, pre-employment drug screen, and acceptable motor vehicle report.

Nice To Haves

Good knowledge of laws and regulations concerning cargo transfer and oil pollution prevention.
Hands-on knowledge of the procedures necessary to load and discharge the barges.
Friendly disposition and good people skills.
On the job training for the barges assigned.
Approved for position by pilot and Marine Operations Manager.

Responsibilities

Perform cargo transfers in a safe and efficient manner, in compliance with U.S. Coast Guard and company regulations.
Load and discharge liquid products from tank barges safely and efficiently.
Operate all assigned barge equipment, including forklifts.
Supervise the connecting and disconnecting of hoses while remaining on the barge.
Inspect barges following all safety rules and cargo transfer procedures.
Ensure required firefighting equipment is aboard barges before starting loading or unloading.
Assume responsibilities and duties of a deckhand when not performing Tankerman duties.
Perform general maintenance and clean boats and barges.
Check the crewboat at night and on weekends.
Assist other departments as needed.
Be at work on time.
Be friendly and courteous to all customers and co-workers.
Have full knowledge of the Vessel Response Plan.
