About The Position

As a Welder III – Tank Welder, you will perform advanced tank fit-up and welding operations with a focus on producing structurally sound, watertight assemblies. You will independently interpret tank fabrication prints, fit and position tank components, perform multiple weld types and positions, identify and repair nonconforming welds, and prepare completed units for testing and downstream operations.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED required
  • D1.1 structural certification and D11-guage certification
  • 5+ years experience as a MIG welder
  • One year of continuous experience in a manufacturing environment required
  • Must be able to read and understand English

Responsibilities

  • Perform advanced tank fit-up and welding operations.
  • Produce structurally sound, watertight assemblies.
  • Independently interpret tank fabrication prints.
  • Fit and position tank components.
  • Perform multiple weld types and positions.
  • Identify and repair nonconforming welds.
  • Prepare completed units for testing and downstream operations.
  • Follow verbal and written work instructions and established procedures.
  • Independently perform required tank-welding operations in the correct sequence and make sound technical decisions within established procedures.
  • Locate, read, and interpret tank fabrication prints, dimensions, weld locations, weld types, and weld lengths.
  • Independently fit and position tank components using levels, squares, measurements, and established fabrication requirements.
  • Produce watertight welds, including long fillet, vertical-down, butt, flange, and other required welds and positions.
  • Inspect welds and identify nonconforming conditions, including undercut, overlap, base-metal gouging, and overgrinding.
  • Troubleshoot weld-quality and fit-up issues and independently perform appropriate repairs and rework.
  • Prepare completed tank assemblies for testing and inspection.
  • Anticipate downstream production issues and take appropriate action within established procedures.
  • Perform work across sub-weld, base-weld, and applicable tank-welding work centers with little to no assistance.
  • Perform specialized primary, secondary, finish-cell, or double-stack tank operations as applicable to the assigned work center.
  • Identify missing components and follow established processes to obtain required parts.
  • Safely operate cranes and forklifts after required training and certification.
  • Understand welding PPE, shop safety, material-handling practices, and 5S requirements.
  • Safely work around forklifts, cranes, and other material-handling equipment.
  • Complete assigned work within established production and takt-time requirements.
  • Lift and handle parts weighing up to 40 pounds and work with team members to handle larger parts.
