About The Position

Great Western Trailer (GWT) is immediately hiring full-time Tank Technicians to service semi-trailers at our Oklahoma City, OK facility. As a Tank Technician, you will inspect, repair, and maintain tanks in accordance with Department of Transportation (DOT) and ASTM regulations. Be a part of our team – Apply now!

Requirements

  • Minimum 3 years of experience working on or around tank vehicles or pressure vessels. (Candidates without this experience may be considered for Trailer Technician roles instead.)
  • Ability to lift/move up to 50 lbs.
  • Own a personal set of hand tools (except in California).
  • Strong mechanical knowledge of tank and semi-trailer equipment.
  • Ability to operate hand, power, pneumatic tools, and welding equipment safely.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills and ability to follow service guidelines.

Nice To Haves

  • 3+ years of tank vehicle service experience.
  • Registered Tank Inspector certification.
  • Additional certifications such as Tank, ASE, or welding.
  • Bilingual (Spanish) is a plus.
  • Willingness to work overtime as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect, Service & Repair: Tanks and trailers to meet FHWA, FMCSA, DOT HM183, and hazmat standards.
  • Inspect, Service & Repair: Pneumatic and hydraulic control systems, product pumps, and piping.
  • Inspect, Service & Repair: Overfill systems (Scully, Civacon, Flotech, Titan Logix, Garnett).
  • Inspect, Service & Repair: Air brake systems, valves, sensors, dome lids, shoes, drums, pads, and rotors.
  • Inspect, Service & Repair: Low voltage wiring, harnesses, lights, batteries, and charging systems.
  • Inspect, Service & Repair: Chassis, side-shells, caps, doors, retainers, fasteners, floors, and plates.
  • Perform preventative maintenance and minor mechanical repairs.
  • Troubleshoot electrical and lighting systems; perform sheet metal and paint work.
  • Installation, Welding & Fabrication: Install add-on components (toolboxes, pumping systems, ladders, brackets).
  • Installation, Welding & Fabrication: Perform aluminum and steel MIG/TIG welding, including in confined spaces.
  • Installation, Welding & Fabrication: Fabricate hydraulic pump systems and perform wood/metal carpentry.
  • Installation, Welding & Fabrication: Complete wreck repairs and custom fabrication.
  • Installation, Welding & Fabrication: Obtain company weld test certification.
  • Quality Checks & Reporting: Complete Mechanic’s Service Reports.
  • Quality Checks & Reporting: Prepare FHWA and HM183 testing documentation.
  • Quality Checks & Reporting: Maintain clean, organized workspaces and tools.
