About The Position

The Talent Advisor will lawfully and procedurally administer recruitment/selection and hiring functions for the University’s faculty, administrator/professional faculty, classified, and hourly positions. This role will serve as an HR Employment Specialist/Consultant to assigned departments/hiring officials to maintain optimal employment levels. The position requires working knowledge of other functional areas of HR, including talent acquisition, classification, compensation, benefits, and HRIS. The mission of Human Resources is to provide services in recruitment, benefits administration, consulting professional and organizational development, and retention for administrators, faculty, staff, and prospective employees of Virginia State University, fostering student development. This position is not eligible for employment-based visa sponsorship, and applicants must be authorized to work in the United States without employer sponsorship, now or in the future.

Requirements

Considerable knowledge of human resource policies and procedures related to recruitment, selection, and onboarding.
Demonstrated ability to interpret and apply human resource principles and practices, including federal and state laws and regulations and policies to recruitment and selection functions.
Some knowledge of training and education processes and group facilitation processes.
Demonstrated ability to analyze issues and reach logical and supportable conclusions.
Demonstrated ability to counsel and advise managers and employees on recruitment activities.
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in formal and informal presentations and in writing.
Demonstrated ability to produce written material using creative forms of communication for diverse audiences.
Strong Customer Service and interpersonal skills required.
Organization, Time Management, and the ability to prioritize assignments are a priority for success in this position.
Considerable skill in the use of Microsoft office suite and Human Resource Information Systems.

Nice To Haves

Preferred certifications in SHRM CP/SCP, SPHR/PHR, CCP, CBP, CEBS, etc.
Experience recruiting within higher education.
Experience recruiting within state government, the public sector, or another highly regulated environment.
Experience applying federal and state employment requirements, equal employment opportunity standards, and organizational hiring policies throughout the recruitment process.
Experience conducting compensation analyses and developing salary recommendations for new hires, promotions, and transfers.
Experience using an applicant tracking or recruitment management system to manage workflows, maintain records, monitor service levels, and report recruitment metrics.
Experience using PageUp, Cardinal, Ellucian Banner.
