Take Off Technician

KE&G Construction, Inc.•Tucson, AZ

About The Position

KE&G Construction Inc., a 100% employee-owned company, is seeking a motivated and experienced Takeoff Technician to support and improve its GPS and digital takeoff workflows. The role supports the estimating team by producing accurate, well-documented quantity takeoffs and clear scope definitions for heavy civil projects. It contributes to bid accuracy, cost forecasting, and risk management across earthwork, underground utilities, paving, structures, and site improvements. The technician performs detailed digital measurements, prepares material and mass-haul summaries, interprets plans and project documentation, builds and quality-checks surface models, and reconciles survey data with model geometry. The role also maintains organized takeoff records and audit trails, flags conflicts and bid risks, and collaborates with estimators, project managers, field operations, vendors, and subcontractors. Work takes place in both office and field environments, including active construction sites and outdoors in varied weather. The position regularly involves computer use and may require lifting up to 50 pounds. Occasional extended hours may be necessary to meet project deadlines.

  • Experience with Arizona agencies, such as City, County, or ADOT.
  • Familiarity with GPS machine control, drone files, and survey workflows.
  • Exposure to production-based estimating and crew-based cost codes, such as HCSS.
  • Ability to use Trimble Business Center, Microsoft Office, and Bluebeam platforms.
  • Strong proficiency with digital takeoff and civil modeling tools.
  • Solid understanding of earthwork principles, including topsoil stripping, moisture conditioning, over-excavation, and balancing; utility installation, including pipe classes and manholes/structures; paving, including mix types, lift thickness, and density; and basic structural quantities.
  • Ability to read and interpret plan/profile sheets, cross sections, details, specifications, and geotechnical reports.
  • Working knowledge of DOT and local agency standards (ADOT or jurisdictional equivalents), CSI divisions, and construction sequencing.
  • High attention to detail, disciplined documentation habits, and reliability in meeting deadlines.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and navigate active construction sites.

  • Interpret civil plans, details, and notes, corroborating them with specifications, geotechnical reports, traffic control documents, SWPPP, and addenda/RFIs.
  • Build and quality-check existing and proposed surface models, align plan/profile sheets, and verify datum and benchmark consistency.
  • Import and clean survey data, including alignments and control points, and reconcile it with model geometry.
  • Organize takeoff folders and maintain version control and audit trails.
