Tactical Networking Engineer

Anduril•Irvine, CA
•$112,000 - $149,000

About The Position

The Air Defense team builds robots that find other robots and knock them out of the sky. At a time when air superiority can no longer be taken for granted, the Air Defense Team provides mission critical capabilities to warfighters. From detection to tracking, identification, deterrence, and defeat, our family of networked sensors and effectors enables our customers to rapidly close the kill chain against a broad range of Unmanned Aerial System (UAS) threats. Working across product, engineering, sales, logistics, operations, and mission success, the Air Defense team develops, tests, deploys, and sustains the Anduril Air Defense Family of Systems (FoS) in challenging operational environments worldwide. We are hiring a Tactical Networking Engineer to lead the design and implementation of a networking stack to enable command and control (C2) and collaborative autonomy of distributed unmanned systems.

  • Expertise in tactical LOS and BLOS RF systems especially in maritime environment for ship-to-ship and ship-to-shore comms
  • SatCom VHF + UHF LPI/LPD and anti-jamming MIMO Antenna theory
  • Experience with networking protocols and technologies, including: Ad-hoc mesh networking, Secure communication protocols - IPSec / MACSec, Software-Defined Networking / SD-WANs, Internet protocols - TCP/IP, DNS, etc., Routing protocols (small and large scale - e.g. mesh routing as well as internet-scale routing across autonomous systems)
  • Must be willing to travel for test field events up to 25%
  • Eligible to obtain and hold a DoD security clearance

Nice To Haves

  • Active clearance status
  • Experience with existing middlewares (e.g., DDS, ROS, MQTT)
  • Experience with network modeling and simulation tools and frameworks
  • Experience with electronic warfare (EW) technologies
  • Experience with unmanned aerial or surface systems

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, deploy, and troubleshoot networking solutions focused on Layer-1 (Physical), Layer-2 (Data), Layer-3 (Network), and Layer-4 (Transport) of the Open Systems Interconnection (OSI) reference model
  • Perform trade-off studies of different comms and networking solutions including government provided technologies
  • Design network laydowns and configurations decomposed from complex design reference missions (DRMs) involving large scale unmanned systems and forward-deployed C2 systems.
  • Build robust tooling for benchmarking and analyzing network traffic
  • Analyze test network infrastructure, develop recommendations, and implement improvements for network reliability and throughput for edge network
  • Collaborate extensively with software engineers to build a representative modeling and simulation environment including hardware-in-the-loop lab infrastructure
