About The Position

The Boeing Company is seeking a Software Engineering Manager (Level K) to join the T-7 Mission Systems Software team located in Berkley, MO. This position will focus on supporting the Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) business organization. The successful candidate will have a passion for working with people and for delivering exceptional products and services to our customers. The candidate will be responsible for full life-cycle software development of the Mission Systems software to meet T-7 program milestones. In addition to the completion of the Engineering Manufacturing Development contract, this role is also responsible for the Mission Systems execution of work on future T-7 contracts. This position in the software organization is an existing position on the program. The T-7 Red Hawk is a state-of-the-art trainer being developed for the U.S. Air Force. This all-new training platform brings advanced training capabilities to prepare pilots for fifth-generation combat. The T-7 delivers leading-edge technology that will revolutionize pilot training. The successful candidate for this role will oversee the development of real-time embedded C++ software for mission management of T-7. The candidate will collaborate and coordinate with the Mission Systems Hardware, Mission Systems Integration, Flight Simulation, Quality, Safety, and Support teams. This position requires project, people, and technical leadership; customer engagement; champions Agile best practices; conducts employee development and employee reviews; as well as management of team budgets and schedules.

Requirements

  • Ability to obtain a U.S. Secret Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship.
  • Ability to obtain Secret U.S. Security clearance (Post-Start)
  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Candidates must have at least one year of experience in a leadership role (team leader, temp manager, large scale cross functional project/program management, or formal manager experience) OR have completed the Boeing internal course “Exploring Leadership
  • 1 or more years of experience managing/leading diverse software teams
  • 5 or more years of experience in the software development full lifecycle
  • Experience in earned value management

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science
  • Previous experience developing and/or leading development of mission-critical software for air vehicle platforms
  • Experience in software product development and SAFe Agile methodologies.
  • Understanding how to build software products in a platform ecosystem is ideal
  • Experience attracting, developing, and challenging world class developers with a passion to drive excellence in software development
  • Broad technical experience in software technologies and practices including but not limited to programming languages, development environments, operating systems, real-time embedded software, validation, and verification, and in emerging technology and engineering standards

Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of ~15 engineers in the design, development, integration, test, and verification of an operational flight program for the mission management of T-7
  • Provide guidance, coaching, talent development, and performance feedback to a team of software engineers
  • Monitor team performance metrics, measure performance, and implement improvements to increase productivity and quality
  • Develop, execute, and monitor plans for the execution of software development projects that meet cost, schedule, and quality goals
  • Collaborate with program managers, customers, and Air Force stakeholders to define PI plans, project requirements and deliverables
  • Manage cost accounts through EVM practices
  • Track risks and develop/execute mitigation plans; identify and pursue opportunities
  • Drive technical strategy and architecture decisions in alignment with business goals
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement, innovation, and high engineering standards
  • Manage resource allocation and hiring to build a balanced and effective engineering team
  • Ensure effective communication within the team and across disciplines
  • Ensure compliance with processes and design practices
