About The Position

Boston Dynamics’ Systems Engineering, Integration, and Test (SEIT) Department is seeking a Systems Test Engineer Co-op to help verify and validate its humanoid robot systems. The role provides hands-on technical support to a peer group of test engineers and technicians across mechanical, electrical, and software disciplines. The co-op reports to the Verification, Validation, & Test Associate Director on the Atlas team. The position supports robot-system integration and testing, including setting up test stands, validating components and firmware, developing test processes, executing tests, debugging issues, and supporting failure analysis. It also contributes to accelerated-life reliability testing for components and complete systems.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.

Nice To Haves

  • Solid mechatronics fundamentals and hands-on experience designing, building, and testing PCBAs or subsystem test stands used for hardware and software validation.
  • Experience using 3D modeling software or Altium or similar EDA tools.
  • Experience testing and debugging complex electromechanical systems.
  • General experience in firmware, automation, and controls.
  • Experience with data analysis and visualization.
  • Familiarity with software tools including Python, C++, Jama, Jira, Google Suite, Matlab, Arena, Altium, Solidworks, Catia v6, Raspberry Pi, and Arduino.

Responsibilities

  • Work across electrical, mechanical, firmware, and technician teams to validate and integrate robot systems into test stands for reliability, verification, and software testing.
  • Oversee and execute the integration of testing fixtures, including instrumentation, wiring, and configurations.
  • Test and validate assemblies and firmware for robot components such as actuators, grippers, power distribution boards, battery management systems, sensing boards, motor controllers, and compute boards.
  • Contribute to the definition of test-system design and test processes.
  • Support system integration and test activities by contributing to test execution and debugging.
  • Work alongside test engineers to develop and execute accelerated-life reliability test specifications for actuators, batteries, structures, bushings, wirings, sensors, and the full system.
  • Support failure analysis for failures resulting from reliability testing.
