Systems Test Engineer Intern

About The Position

We are looking for a driven Engineering Intern to join our Systems Test team for Summer 2026. In this role you will work alongside experienced systems and integration engineers to plan, execute, and analyze tests on complex hardware/software systems. You will gain real-world exposure to test planning, requirements traceability, data collection, and failure analysis in a mission-focused environment.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Industrial & Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field
  • Proficiency in Python for data manipulation, scripting, or automation
  • Experience with SQL or relational databases for querying and managing test datasets
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail
  • Ability to clearly communicate technical findings in written and verbal form
  • U.S. Citizenship (position may require access to controlled facilities or data)

Nice To Haves

  • Prior internship or research experience in a technical, engineering, or defense/government environment
  • Familiarity with systems engineering concepts such as requirements traceability, V&V, or test and evaluation (T&E) fundamentals
  • Exposure to project management tools (MS Project, Jira, or equivalent)
  • Understanding of MTBF, reliability metrics, or basic reliability engineering principles
  • Experience with AI/ML tools applied to data analysis or automation
  • Demonstrated leadership in team settings — academic, athletic, or community

Responsibilities

  • Support test planning and the development of test procedures for hardware, software, and integrated systems
  • Execute functional, regression, and performance test cases and accurately document results
  • Collect, organize, and perform initial analysis of test data using Python or Excel to identify trends and anomalies
  • Assist in identifying and documenting defects; track issues through resolution using a project management or bug-tracking tool
  • Participate in test readiness reviews and contribute to technical documentation including test reports and lessons-learned summaries
  • Support root-cause analysis on test failures and recommend corrective actions
  • Collaborate with hardware, software, and systems engineers across the integration and test lifecycle
  • Apply knowledge of human factors and ergonomics to evaluate operator interfaces and usability of test tooling
