About The Position

The City of Falls Church is recruiting for a full-time Systems Specialist position in IT Services. This position is primarily responsible for analysis and hands-on support for workstations, audiovisual (A/V), phones (desk & mobile) and other related equipment and software. The work is performed under the general supervision and guidance of the Communication Specialist/Jr. Engineer and the City’s IT Manager. Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited high school with a minimum of 2.5 years of directly related professional experience, or graduation from an accredited college or university with an Associate’s degree and 1½ years or Bachelor’s degree with 1 year directly related professional experience in supporting information systems and computer operations.
  • Professional experience showing ability to research problem solutions, coordinate, schedule projects and prioritize work.
  • Demonstrating ability to respond to multiple tasks within acceptable time frames, and ability to prepare and maintain accurate reports and records.
  • Experience has shown strong configuration and support knowledge of operating systems including Windows 11, along with MS Office applications.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Active Directory and Group Policy a plus.
  • Strong understanding of supporting workstation network connectivity over switches on TCP/IP networks.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff of all levels, contractors, and vendors.
  • Ability to prepare reports and to communicate ideas effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to proactively self-initiate and continually expand professional development of all necessary skillsets, as well as keep abreast of related emerging technologies.

Nice To Haves

  • CompTia A+ certification, strongly preferred
  • An equivalent combination of relevant training and demonstrated experience may be considered in lieu of degree or certification.

Responsibilities

  • Support for hardware, software, networks, and phones including laptops, desktops, printers and mobile devices.
  • Maintaining systems by performing software patches, security updates and upgrades.
  • Active directory account management (moves, adds, changes).
  • Facilitate support calls via phone or e-mails as tier 1 and escalate complex issues to tier 2 support.
  • Document and track the support request in the IT ticketing system.
  • Assist City staff in assessment and procurement of IT equipment and solutions.
  • Asset management, inventorying, deployment, tracking, and disposal of the City HW and SW assets using IT Services processes and asset management software.
  • Other related tasks as required.
