About The Position

The Boeing Company's BCA In-Service Safety Organization is seeking a System Safety Engineer to join their team in Seal Beach, CA. They are hiring for a broad range of experience levels, including Associate (Level 2), Mid-Level (Level 3), or Senior (Level 4) System Safety Engineers. This role offers the opportunity to work independently while leading teams tasked with evaluating potential safety issues and making recommendations for product safety decisions. This activity enables program and functional leadership to render informed safety decisions and preserves the operational safety of the commercial fleet. The position provides exposure to all aspects of airplane design and operation, focusing on evaluating the safety of products during in-service operation. Potential safety issue evaluations include consideration of the airplane design's intended performance, published operational and maintenance guidance, and aspects involving human factors and the human/machine interface. The role involves frequent engagement with the Air Safety Investigation group, quality organizations, certification experts, and functional team experts across the company. The team is described as close-knit with dedicated advisors and mentors, fostering a collaborative teaming environment. Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology (including Manufacturing Technology), Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry or non-US equivalent qualifications directly related to the work statement.
  • Level 2: 2+ years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience in aerospace systems engineering.
  • Experience with system safety analysis.
  • Experience effectively communicating, both verbally and in writing, and collaborating on multi-discipline teams.
  • Experience working with FAR Part 25.1309, and industry practices like ARP 4761 & 4754.
  • Experience working with cross discipline engineering teams.
  • Experience in airplane systems design and/or analysis (e.g. flight controls, hydraulics, avionics, fuels, etc.) and/or systems integration.
  • Experience collecting and analyzing data from multiple sources, as well as interpreting data and presenting analysis and recommendations to management.
  • Must meet U.S. export control compliance requirements. To meet U.S. export control compliance requirements, a “U.S. Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. §120.62 is required. “U.S. Person” includes U.S. Citizen, U.S. National, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.

Responsibilities

  • Provides engineering leadership to multiple teams to ensure thoughtful strategic planning, development of objective statements of work, scheduling of work and estimating.
  • For any event reported through 14 CFR 21.3, the BCA In-Service Airplane Safety Engineering (ASE) team leads the functional engineering organizations (Systems, Structures, Payloads, Propulsion) through the Continued Operational Safety process.
  • Coordinates closely with Boeing functional groups, management and executives, suppliers, and airlines to ensure all stakeholders are aligned on the potential safety issue status and resolution.
  • Works with functional groups within Boeing to evaluate potential safety issues by defining the associated hazards, using complex risk analysis techniques to evaluate these hazards, and using both Boeing and FAA methodologies to determine the corrective action timeline, in order to ensure the issue is addressed before safety risk thresholds are reached.
  • Coordinates with functional groups within Boeing to ensure the solutions mitigate the potential fleet safety concern.
  • Leads Safety Lessons Learned investigations to address systemic root causes (requirements, process changes, etc.) and identify corrective actions to prevent safety issue recurrence on the next design.
  • Coordinates closely with the FAA to ensure the regulators can make an informed, independent safety decision through the FAA safety process.
  • Partners with Enterprise Safety and Safety Management Systems (SMS) to continuously improve our processes and tools to ensure we are ready for the future of BCA and to ensure these processes are consistent with the greater Boeing Enterprise.
  • Acts as a champion for product safety initiatives, objectives, and milestones.
