About The Position

The Systems Safety Engineer (Aviation) will support the Department of Defense (DoD) located in Redstone Arsenal, AL. This role involves providing guidance and technical advice on system safety engineering, including software system safety, throughout the acquisition life cycle. The engineer will assist in planning, establishing, and implementing safety directives, policies, and procedures for aviation system safety and accident prevention. This includes establishing system safety design criteria, performing safety analyses, and reviewing airworthiness documentation to ensure adequate safety information and procedures are in place. The position also ensures safety requirements are included in contracts and provides support during fielding and sustainment.

Requirements

  • Requires a Secret Clearance, or the ability to obtain one; must be a US citizen.
  • Requires a bachelor's degree with 10+ years of work experience.
  • Requires independent work experience with safety analyses, studies, and design evaluation of systems, subsystems, and equipment.
  • Ability to review airworthiness documentation, technical manuals, publications, maintenance procedures and test reports to assure that adequate safety information, accuracy, warning notes, and emergency procedures are prescribed for personnel protection and system operation.
  • Must have experience with Microsoft Office Suite, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and TEAMS.
  • Must be team players with strong work ethics and must be culture oriented.
  • Able to communicate effectively, verbally and in written form, with internal and external customers.
  • Able to follow company programs, processes, procedures, practices, requirements, goals, and objectives.
  • Must be organized with good time management skills and must be able to work outside normal schedule and adjust schedule to meet peak periods and surge requirements.
  • Regular attendance in accordance with an established work schedule is critical.

Responsibilities

  • Provide overall guidance and direction to PMs as necessary to accomplish the objectives of system safety engineering program.
  • Furnish technical advice and assistance to PMs in matters of system safety engineering to include software system safety in all phases of the acquisition life cycle.
  • Assist with command activities and PMs in planning, establishing, implementing, and revising, of safety directives, policies, procedures, techniques, and training for all activities relating to aviation system safety, to include accident prevention in connection with personnel engaged and equipment used in various operations including aircraft development and test, repair, and maintenance.
  • Establish system safety design criteria and requirements for aviation systems and special projects.
  • Perform independent safety analyses, studies, and design evaluation of systems, subsystems, and equipment.
  • Review airworthiness documentation, technical manuals, publications, maintenance procedures and test reports to assure that adequate safety information, accuracy, warning notes, and emergency procedures are prescribed for personnel protection and system operation.
  • Ensure safety requirements are included in hazardous item contracts and provides safety engineering support during fielding and sustainment of supported programs.
