Systems Integration Engineer

DoorDash USASan Francisco, CA
$170,000 - $250,000Onsite

About The Position

We are hiring a Systems Integration Engineer for our Platform Integration team. This is a critical role to build robust and scalable integration processes for our platforms and systems to ensure reliable functionality at every level. In this role, you will work with our mechanical, electrical, firmware, and software engineers to ensure the robot works as one cohesive system, defining subsystem interfaces, building the necessary test setups, and verifying platform-level readiness before validation, manufacturing, or mission use. You will report to the Autonomy Platform Lead on our Autonomy Platform Team at DoorDash Labs. We expect this role to be fully onsite.

Requirements

  • BS/MS degree in Electrical Engineering, Robotics, Mechatronics, Mechanical Engineering, or related technical field.
  • 5+ years of experience in hardware/software integration, system integration, vehicle bring-up, or hardware validation for robotics, autonomous vehicles, or other complex mechatronics systems.
  • Proven experience troubleshooting complex physical systems, root-causing signal integrity issues, and diagnosing electrical and communication faults.
  • Experience with basic scripting (e.g., Python or Linux shell scripts) for executing tests, logging data, and running diagnostics.
  • Solid understanding of digital electronics, buses (I2C, SPI, UART, CAN), and embedded peripherals for hardware-level troubleshooting.
  • Knowledge and comfort working with hardware electrical systems for reading board schematics, wiring diagrams, physical bring-up, troubleshooting, and system validation.
  • Comfortable using source control and build automation tools like Git, Jenkins, etc.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience collaborating in multi-disciplinary teams spanning software, controls, and hardware, and can communicate technical details across domains effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Support early integration of new subsystem designs by defining interface contracts, integration risks, dependencies, and system-level validation checks.
  • Design and build HIL systems and physical test benches, including wiring harnesses, for development, system-level validation, and integrated platform testing.
  • Implement automated test sequences and validation procedures to stress-test integrated platform behavior across batteries, drivetrain, thermal management, sensors, controls, and embedded systems.
  • Lead system-level debugging when issues cross subsystem boundaries or no single team can isolate the root cause.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify integration gaps that impact vehicle safety, performance, and functionality.
  • Document integration procedures, test results, known issues, and platform readiness for downstream validation and manufacturing teams.
