About The Position

This position is responsible for serving as engineering lead for Powertrain Systems Reliability Growth in-vehicle validation. The primary focus is the mechanical systems of zero emission, as well as conventional internal combustion powertrains. Responsibilities include the application of engineering principles to lead Reliability Growth (RG) powertrain validation activities on a daily basis, effectively communicating findings and results across the organization, being the Detroit RG voice in the organization and providing support to steer a medium-sized team to achieve project targets. Lead Daimler Truck North America RG Powertrain validation, including the application and development of new or improved test procedures, analysis techniques and processes. Lead and train engineers and technicians with technical information, guidance, and plans. Compile and evaluate RG powertrain data, compose reports and make recommendations to the powertrain engineering community. Present RG updates during weekly Daimler Truck North America technical reviews. Effectively communicate with Daimler Truck counterparts, using one’s global network, and make recommendations to guide and drive powertrain development at a system and component level. Represent Detroit Powertrain as RG Technical Powertrain System Lead. Create and align of powertrain test plans with Engineering Program Management, powertrain engineering as well as vehicle engineering. Evaluate system failures and lead powertrain failure root cause analysis. Lead RG continuous improvement development and implementation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • 7 years of experience as Test Engineer within the automotive or commercial vehicle OEM industry
  • Must have experience with each of the following: Mechanical and mechatronic systems, including system-level troubleshooting and diagnostics; Failure root cause analysis and application of industry-standard powertrain engineering test and validation protocols; Mechanical powertrain systems validation in a vehicle or systems engineering environment; Development and application of instrumentation, data acquisition systems, and post-test data analysis; Project management, including planning, coordination, and execution of multiple concurrent complex engineering projects, and identification and mitigation of technical and program risks; Preparation and delivery of professional technical presentations to senior management; and Using Microsoft Office, FiNAS, CVDS, Engineering Client, DiagnosticLink, DAVE, EFCIMS, VSignalizer, TruckBOM, and documentation tools.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as engineering lead for Powertrain Systems Reliability Growth in-vehicle validation.
  • Drive and support the daily operation of a vehicle test fleet, failure root cause analysis, and to collaborate with cross-functional as well as global teams, covering on On-Highway and Vocational class 6 to 8 vehicle validation while continuously leveraging existing local and global network, seeking new ways to improve efficiencies and processes.
  • Lead Daimler Truck North America RG Powertrain validation, including the application and development of new or improved test procedures, analysis techniques and processes.
  • Lead and train engineers and technicians with technical information, guidance, and plans.
  • Compile and evaluate RG powertrain data, compose reports and make recommendations to the powertrain engineering community.
