Systems Engineer - Active Top Secret Required
About The Position
GDIT is seeking a Systems Engineer to design, develop, and integrate complex work systems throughout their lifecycle while advancing long-term technical vision. The role supports customer infrastructure and changing operational needs, including systems that must remain available under adverse conditions. The position is based in Washington, DC, with hybrid telecommuting options and less than 10% travel required. The Systems Engineer manages infrastructure and systems installations, configuration, testing, maintenance, security, backup, and redundancy. The role also supports system performance and interoperability, resolves issues proactively, develops automation, documents system configurations and processes, coordinates testing and user training, and reports project status to upper management. The role requires an active Top Secret clearance; the candidate must be a U.S. citizen.
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technology field; experience may be substituted for education.
- U.S. citizenship required.
- Must currently possess a Top Secret clearance; must be able to obtain Top Secret/SCI clearance.
- Related technical experience, including developing methods to deploy development environments that mirror production environments for risk mitigation in software and hardware testing and evaluation.
- Experience troubleshooting complex system hardware and software issues.
- Practical use of DevOps, DevSecOps, and/or GitOps methodologies.
- Knowledge of DNS, HTTP, LDAP, ICMP, SSH, and SNMP protocols.
- Knowledge of networking, VLANs, firewalls, load balancers, and addressing schemes.
- System administration skills, including file system, network, and account troubleshooting.
- Knowledge of repository management practices, patch administration, and vulnerability remediation.
- Ability to produce thorough technical documentation, including diagrams.
- Experience successfully implementing new technology in complex environments.
- Experience using centralized log management and analysis tools.
- Experience implementing zero-trust practices across the technology stack.
Responsibilities
- Manage and monitor infrastructure and systems installations, including configuration, testing, and maintenance.
- Implement and maintain backup, security, and redundancy strategies.
- Identify potential issues and implement solutions proactively.
- Create custom scripts to reduce the need for human interaction.
- Enable faster business processes and develop meaningful analytics.
- Provide upper management with reports on project status, activities, and achievements.
- Create and maintain documentation covering system configuration, mapping, processes, and service records.
- Ensure compatibility and interoperability of in-house computing systems.
- Coordinate and perform in-depth tests, including end-user reviews, for modified and new systems.
- Monitor and test system performance and prepare and deliver performance statistics and reports.
- Provide end-user orientation and training for modified and new systems.
- Gather high-level requirements and translate them into tasks for Systems Engineers.
- Ensure mission-critical applications are highly available under adverse conditions.
- Promote modern methodologies to increase efficiency and consistency.
- Contribute to and advocate for long-term technical vision.
- Consider existing tools and capabilities when evaluating new tools.
