About The Position

Collins Aerospace is seeking a Systems Engineer to join the Athena Control Systems Team, which architects, designs, and develops flight controls, autopilot, engine control, sensing, and estimation systems for manned and unmanned commercial and military applications. The engineer will contribute to the development, certification, and maintenance of safety-critical systems, working with a team of engineers to meet quality and safety standards. The role involves embedded software development, system integration and testing, simulation and test-data analysis, and developing certified safety-critical systems. The position is onsite in Sterling, Virginia, and requires an active DoD Secret clearance after the first day, as well as U.S. citizenship. Travel up to 15% is required.

Requirements

Experience developing software with C/C++, embedded systems, and real-time operating systems.
Experience with development toolsets such as Jira and Subversion, Git, or other version-management tools.
Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) and at least 2 years of relevant experience, or an advanced degree in a related field.
U.S. citizenship is required because only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.
Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government-issued security clearance; an active and existing DoD Secret clearance is required after day one.

Nice To Haves

Experience with tools such as DOORS, MATLAB, C++, and Python.
Experience with systems development, including requirements capture, design, decomposition, integration, verification and validation, and transition to production.
Experience communicating with program stakeholders.
Knowledge or experience in aerospace, sensor fusion, control systems, computer vision, or algorithm development.
Experience developing safety-critical embedded systems, including hardware/software integration, reading schematics and layouts, and requirements-based system testing and verification.
Background in embedded and application software development, simulations and test-data analysis, certified safety-critical systems, and hardware-based system integration testing in a laboratory.

Responsibilities

Design, code, integrate, and test embedded software systems.
Generate and maintain software lifecycle documentation, including plans, requirements, architecture and design artifacts, verification test cases, procedures, and results.
Develop technical ownership of one or more system components.
Summarize technical software issues clearly and communicate them to project leadership in a timely manner.
Work with moderate oversight from leadership.
Maintain and perform system-level tests and report test results.
Verify that system functionality and performance comply with customer requirements.
Support and perform root cause analysis for reported system anomalies.
Contribute to technical discussions and communicate with customers, technical leaders, and engineering team members.
