About The Position

Apogee is hiring Systems Engineer Subject Matter Experts to support the M-Code Aviation Receivers Joint Program Office (MAR JPO) at Wright-Patterson AFB, Ohio. The positions support GPS User Equipment modernization, with emphasis on Navigation Warfare (NAVWAR), technical assessments, platform integration, open architecture implementation, and the demonstration and fielding of military satellite navigation capabilities. Engineers collaborate with Government engineers and program managers, industry partners, and platform stakeholders to evaluate technical solutions, support acquisition decisions, develop technical documentation, and resolve systems integration challenges. Extensive GPS/PNT-specific experience is valued but is not required. This is a full-time, hybrid on-site position. Three days of on-site work each week are expected, with additional on-site support possible as required by the customer. Travel is 15% at the customer's discretion.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Must possess and maintain a DoD Secret clearance; additional clearance eligibility may be required by mission and applicable contract requirements.
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Systems Engineering, Physics, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
  • Relevant systems engineering or technical experience supporting major weapon systems; no minimum number of years is specified beyond applicable contract labor-category requirements.
  • Relevant experience in systems engineering, systems integration, avionics, test and evaluation, or related technical work supporting complex aerospace, defense, or comparable engineering programs.
  • Working knowledge of systems engineering lifecycle processes, including requirements analysis, interface management, verification and validation, and technical risk management.
  • Ability to assess operational and technical requirements, conduct engineering analyses and trade studies, and recommend practical solutions to integration challenges.
  • Familiarity with avionics, embedded systems, navigation technologies, or comparable hardware/software interfaces, and ability to apply that foundation to GPS/PNT modernization.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to evaluate complex technical issues and clearly communicate recommended actions.
  • Excellent technical writing and communication skills, including preparation of engineering assessments, technical briefings, and decision-support documentation.
  • Ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams, Government program managers, and industry stakeholders.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's or doctorate degree in Engineering or a related technical field.
  • In-depth knowledge of GPS/GNSS systems, military PNT, NAVWAR, M-Code receivers, and avionics integration.
  • Experience applying systems engineering practices aligned with ISO/IEC/IEEE 15288, EIA-632, or comparable DoD engineering frameworks.
  • Experience with modular and open architecture approaches, including MOSA and standards such as SOSA, FACE, OMS, or VITA.
  • Familiarity with MIL-STD-1553, avionics data buses, Interface Control Documents (ICDs), and aircraft or subsystem interfaces.
  • Experience working within the DoW Acquisition System, particularly AFLCMC or military aviation receiver modernization programs, with emphasis on Engineering and Manufacturing Development (EMD) and/or sustainment phases.
  • Experience with airborne platform integration, receiver/antenna technologies, engineering trade studies, or technology demonstrations.
  • Experience supporting developmental or operational test and evaluation, system verification, MBSE, or formal engineering reviews.
  • Depth of relevant experience and demonstrated capability.

Responsibilities

  • Provide systems engineering and technical support for NAVWAR and military GPS/PNT modernization, including satellite navigation receivers, antenna systems, and associated avionics.
  • Evaluate operational requirements and proposed engineering solutions supporting development, demonstration, integration, and fielding of modernized PNT capabilities.
  • Conduct technical assessments, engineering analyses, and trade studies addressing system performance, integration approaches, technical risks, and implementation alternatives.
  • Support Government acquisition activities by developing and reviewing engineering documentation, contractor technical submissions, program plans, and proposed technical solutions.
  • Coordinate with Government program offices, aircraft platform teams, industry partners, and other stakeholders to address engineering and systems integration challenges.
  • Assist with developing and reviewing technical requirements, interface documentation, systems engineering plans, and program materials.
  • Assess compatibility and integration considerations for aircraft avionics, GPS receivers, antennas, and related navigation systems.
  • Support developmental and operational test and evaluation, including assessment of test plans, results, and technical issues.
  • Participate in technical interchange meetings, engineering reviews, working groups, and program discussions, and provide actionable technical recommendations.
  • Evaluate emerging GPS/PNT technologies, complementary navigation capabilities, and modernization initiatives for potential military aviation applications.
  • Identify and manage technical risks, interoperability concerns, integration challenges, and opportunities to improve program execution.
  • Prepare technical briefings, engineering assessments, and decision-support materials for Government leadership.
  • Support technical coordination across the broader military aviation receiver and Assured PNT enterprise.
