About The Position

We’re seeking a flexible and action-oriented systems engineer to support efforts across the entire program lifecycle including concept development, design, requirement development, implementation, integration, launch, commissioning, operations, and maintenance. This position is for a junior systems engineer who can support systems engineering project teams with general SE tasking. Specific tasking will be dynamic and will focus on managing the technical requirement development and verification for subsystems, payloads, vehicles, and/or ground systems to ensure the logical and systematic conversion of product requirements into total systems solutions for space missions. Additional tasking will include assisting in the management of other Systems Engineering tasks including the development and management of interfaces, environmental considerations, CONOPS, CDRLs, Systems Engineering Reports, change controls, MBSE models, I&T planning and execution, milestone gate review management, etc. depending on the specific program needs. The Engineering, Science and Analysis (ESA) Strategic Capabilities Unit comprises the technical talent and organizational leadership that enables the successful delivery of high-impact discriminating technologies for our customers’ missions. Requirements

  • BS degree or higher in Engineering or a related technical field is required.
  • Demonstrated detail-oriented abilities which are necessary to effectively review and verify requirements.
  • Experience (either direct or course work) in systems engineering processes, including requirements development, requirement allocation, change management, verification, and validation.
  • Ability to incorporate guidance and to own these activities.
  • Good organizational and presentation skills.
  • Demonstrated curiosity and the willingness to learn new technical concepts spanning engineering disciplines.
  • Demonstrated ability to think ‘bigger picture’ in order to consider how impacts to components, subsystems, etc. affect the entire system.
  • Demonstrated flexibility to work in a dynamic environment with shifting priorities, tasking, and deadlines.
  • The applicant must be willing and eligible for submission, depending on program requirements, after an offer is accepted and must be able to maintain the applicable clearance/access.

Nice To Haves

  • Each higher-level degree, i.e., Master’s Degree or Ph.D., may substitute for two years of experience.
  • Customer Relationships: basic knowledge of missions and customers across core technologies areas.
  • Knowledge/experience working with critical customer base, established relationships with key personnel within customer community is preferred.
  • Experience using requirements database tools (DOORS, Jama, Cameo Requirements Modeler, e.g.) is preferred.
  • A current, active Top Secret/SCI with Polygraph security clearance.
  • Demonstrated experience working with multi-disciplinary teams including meeting schedule and performance goals.
  • Demonstrated experience with System Engineering, System Traceability, or Spacecraft component/subsystem management experience.

Responsibilities

  • Provide systems engineering support of technical teams for the development, verification, delivery, and operations of Missions, Segments, Elements, Subsystems and/or Components.
  • Support the proper allocation, traceability, and verification of requirements at all levels through the lifecycle of the program.
  • Coordinate with multiple subject matter experts to develop the necessary requirements allocation, analysis, and verification artifacts.
  • Create and manage technical definition documentation up and down the “V”.
  • Execute to the System Engineering Management Plan (SEMP).
  • Support expectations, preparations, and delivery for major gate reviews (SRR, PDR, CDR, PSR).
  • Support requirements verification and I&T activities.
  • Prepare and give presentations to peers, management, and customers.
  • Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the Strategic Business Units, Strategic Capabilities Units and the Company.
  • Interact appropriately with others in order to maintain a positive and productive work environment.
  • Perform other duties as necessary.
