About The Position

The Systems Engineer will support Bechtel National, Inc.’s Uranium Processing Facility (UPF) project at the Y-12 National Security Complex in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. UPF is a multi-year, multi-billion-dollar project to replace an aging facility and provide enriched uranium capabilities for future Y-12 missions.

The role participates in defining facility and system functions, behaviors, and design requirements. It performs system-level design verification and develops test requirements specifications, while compiling, adjusting, and correlating data using standard systems engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria. The position works with engineering disciplines, project functions, construction management, customers, and regulatory personnel to resolve design and execution issues.

The project follows a 4/10 schedule, with a standard work week Monday through Thursday, 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.; start times are flexible. The position is designated full-time office/project work and is based in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. U.S. citizenship is required. The successful candidate must provide proof of citizenship, complete a security questionnaire, and clear site-access requirements. Candidates must possess an active Secret clearance or be able to obtain one, as applicable. Employees are subject to random drug and alcohol testing as a condition of employment.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Systems, Industrial, Mechanical, Chemical, Electrical, or a related field, and 2–5 years of relevant experience; alternatively, 6–9 years of relevant work experience.
• U.S. citizenship, as required by contract.
• Active Secret security clearance or ability to obtain a Secret security clearance.
• Experience performing design and/or requirements change impact analysis.
• Understanding of requirements management principles and methods.
• Knowledge of related construction practices and standard EPC deliverables.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Nice To Haves

• Master’s degree in systems engineering.
• Experience executing systems engineering with SPEC Innovations Innoslate, IBM Rational DOORS, or other systems engineering software packages.
• Experience in Model-Based Systems Engineering.
• Proposal experience aligning scopes of work to engineering deliverables.
• Familiarity with the design of complex industrial facilities.
• Experience implementing systems engineering on projects for the Department of Defense or similar government agencies.
• Design experience with Unified Facilities Criteria and the Whole Building Design Guide.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate, select, and apply standard systems engineering methods, techniques, procedures, and criteria, using independent judgment to make adaptations and modifications.
• Develop system models using Model-Based Systems Engineering methods and tools, such as IBM Rational DOORS or Innoslate by Spec Innovations.
• Define facility and system functions, behaviors, and design requirements; prepare criteria documents; and coordinate and facilitate technical discussions to resolve system design issues.
• Coordinate system-level design verification, requirements verification, test requirements specifications, requirements flowdown, and traceability.
• Coordinate work and collaborate with other engineering disciplines.
• Provide technical assistance to other Systems personnel and interact with project functions, the customer, and regulatory agency personnel to resolve complex regulatory issues.
• Assist project and construction management in identifying and complying with project Systems requirements and addressing issues during project execution.
