About The Position

GeoSpectrum is growing and has a new career opportunity for an experienced Systems Engineer! Reporting to the Manager of Systems Engineering, the Systems Engineer at our sonar engineering facility plays an integral role from the outset of the program. This position is responsible for developing system requirements and Interface Control Documents (ICDs), maintaining requirements throughout the design and testing phases, and leading testing and verification activities prior to system delivery. The Systems Engineer also supports field activities, including sea trials. This role is well suited to a critical thinker and proactive problem solver who enjoys working across a wide range of technical disciplines, including hydrodynamics engineering, mechanical handling and towing systems, power electronics, digital signal electronics, controls engineering, and real‑time data processing and operations software. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering.
  • A minimum of 5 years of professional engineering experience.
  • Experience developing system architecture, managing requirements, and performing verification activities.
  • Experience working with complex systems involving electrical, mechanical, software, and data/network interfaces.
  • Ability to balance strong attention to detail with an understanding of the broader system context.
  • Ability to identify obstacles and take appropriate action to resolve them.
  • Proactive, energetic, and eager to take initiative, with a willingness to think creatively and take calculated risks.
  • Strong interest in developing and delivering complex systems for demanding applications.
  • Strong prioritization skills with the ability to perform effectively in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Demonstrated desire for continuous learning and the ability to leverage mistakes as learning opportunities.
  • Highly organized with strong planning, management, and execution skills.
  • All candidates must be eligible to apply for and maintain Canadian Controlled Goods and Canadian Government Security Clearances.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience within marine systems, defence, or aerospace sectors is considered an asset.
  • Experience working with military standards is considered an asset.
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation is considered an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and manage project requirements through the creation of Verification Cross‑Reference Matrices (VCRMs).
  • Support program development by defining system architecture and creating Interface Control Documents (ICDs) for acoustic, mechanical, electronics, power, controls, and software systems.
  • Use program VCRMs to plan and manage system testing and verification activities, and work with customers to support the development of verification plans for complex systems.
  • Lead the development and management of system requirements, architecture, integrations, and testing, including verification and commissioning activities.
  • Support both environmental and functional system testing activities.
  • Oversee and contribute to requirements management across integrated system projects.
  • Establish and lead the development and validation of external interfaces with other systems.
  • Contribute to the development of product and technology roadmaps, as well as internal research and innovation initiatives.
  • Support business development efforts by contributing to proposals, white papers, and technical documentation.
  • Support the design of safe systems by facilitating hazard identification processes and defining safety requirements.
