About The Position

As a Systems Engineer on the R&D team, you will serve as the technical subject matter expert for Key’s optical sorting and imaging equipment. In this role, you will develop spectral requirements and technical specifications for multi- and hyperspectral imaging systems and related components. You will analyze and document the imaging performance of optical sorting machines and contribute to the development of image and object data models, as well as feature extraction and segmentation methodologies.

Requirements

• Skilled use of Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint for data analysis, reporting and presentation is required.
• Proficiency in linear algebra and calculus.
• Ability to work either independently or as an integral and collaborative part of a development team.
• Must be self-motivated to function in a fast-moving high-tech environment.
• Build productive internal/external working relationships and possess excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Bachelor of Science degree from a four-year college or university in a technical discipline related to machine vision, machine learning and / or industrial imaging systems.
• Three (3) or more years of relevant experience in industrial machine vision inspection & sorting systems or a minimum of 5 years relevant experience in a similar field.
• Knowledge of digital imaging and digital image analysis and processing is required.
• Knowledge of color spaces and radiometric vs. photometric light measurement is required.
• Ability to navigate, search for and retrieve information from a relational database like Access or AX is required.
• Willing to travel up to 10%, some international travel may be required.

Nice To Haves

• Experience with SharePoint, analytical tools like MatLab and/or design / drawing tools like Visio, Creo or Zemax is desired.
• Knowledge of Linux operating system and Python programming is desired.

Responsibilities

• Applies knowledge of system-level interactions and trade-offs to optimize and integrate inspection systems across optical, mechanical, electronic, and software domains.
• Performs detailed modeling, analysis and design.
• Works directly with Mechanical, Electrical / Electronic, Software & Applications Engineering on designs, models, drawings and documentation for concepts, feasibility prototypes, alpha and beta development and commercialization of new or improved products.
• Reviews and evaluates models, drawings, reports and simulation or test results to help qualify or select components or subsystems.
• Analyzes product or equipment electronic specifications and performance requirements.
• Participates in technical product development meetings and / or ideation sessions with other technical groups.
• Partners with Sustaining & Mfg. Engineering in support of existing products, configuration management and cost reduction efforts.
• Optimizes high speed multi and hyperspectral imaging systems through spectral analysis, imaging parameter tuning (MTF, SNR, illumination balance), simulation of real time performance, and Python based data processing workflows.
• Supports installation and services such as collecting data and evaluating field problems.
• Works with Management, Marketing, and others for voice of the Customer and new concept development.
• Estimates & plans projects or system engineering tasks.
• Authors requirement specifications, scopes of work and test plans.
• Participates in Plan of Record, roadmap, budget reviews as needed.
• Provides system architectural guidance.
• Reviews and evaluates technical proposals and contract sections to help qualify or select consultants, contractors or suppliers.
• Oversee engineers or technicians to complete assigned tasks.
• Leads and is accountable for design and development deliverables.
