About The Position

The Baltimore City Office of Information & Technology is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer – Microsoft 365 to support the design, implementation, security, automation, and day-to-day operations of enterprise email and collaboration services. The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on experience with Microsoft 365, Exchange, hybrid messaging environments, Microsoft Teams, Azure AD/Entra ID, PowerShell, Microsoft Graph, SSO, and M365 security/compliance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 8+ years of experience managing Microsoft Exchange and Microsoft 365 platform services in a hybrid environment.
  • 2+ years of experience designing and implementing on-premises and cloud-based email and collaboration solutions.
  • Expert knowledge of Microsoft 365 products and services.
  • Strong hands-on experience with: Exchange Online, Microsoft Exchange Server, Hybrid Exchange, Microsoft Entra ID / Azure AD, Azure AD Connect / Entra Connect, SSO and Federation, Microsoft Teams, Microsoft Purview, PowerShell, Microsoft Graph.
  • Experience configuring SSO for SaaS and hybrid applications.
  • Experience with directory synchronization, federation, authentication, and SSO.
  • Experience with M365 Copilot deployment and support.
  • Strong knowledge of enterprise email security/filtering tools such as Cisco IronPort.
  • Experience with email archiving solutions such as Quest Archive Manager or comparable technologies.
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot and resolve Level 3 incidents.
  • Experience securing both on-premises and cloud-based email/collaboration environments.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Previous experience as an IT technical lead or work lead.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, implement, and support enterprise Microsoft 365 and email collaboration solutions.
  • Manage and support Exchange Server and Exchange Online in hybrid environments.
  • Troubleshoot complex Level 3 Outlook and Exchange issues, including: Outlook configuration, Calendar delegation, Shared mailbox access, Autodiscover, Email tracking, Meeting errors, Delayed delivery, Email restoration, Online archives.
  • Troubleshoot Microsoft Teams issues involving sites, channels, applications, permissions, restorations, and calendars.
  • Develop automation for routine administrative tasks and special projects using PowerShell and Microsoft Graph.
  • Develop and maintain integrations between applications and Microsoft 365 services.
  • Configure and support SSO, federation, authentication, and directory synchronization for SaaS and hybrid applications.
  • Manage Azure AD/Entra ID synchronization and related authentication services.
  • Support deployment and ongoing administration of Microsoft 365 Copilot.
  • Implement and maintain Microsoft Purview and collaboration security solutions.
  • Manage email security and filtering solutions, including Cisco IronPort.
  • Manage enterprise email archiving solutions such as Quest Archive Manager.
  • Secure on-premises and cloud-based email and collaboration environments.
  • Handle critical client escalations and high-priority incidents.
  • Develop and present KPIs, operational reports, and technical updates to senior leadership.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation, procedures, and system/process documentation.
  • Collaborate with internal teams, external stakeholders, and business partners to implement technical solutions.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior staff.
