About The Position

Boeing’s Phantom Works Missile Defense National Teams are hiring Systems Engineers to work in Huntsville, AL, focusing on missile defense. These roles are at the intersection of mission outcomes, architecture, analysis, integration, and test. On the Boeing-led Systems Engineering and Integration (SE&I) National Team, Systems Engineers help the Missile Defense Agency (MDA) shape system-level concepts, architectures, requirements, and assessments for incremental upgrades to America’s Missile Defense System. On the Command, Control, Battle Management, and Communications (C2BMC) National Team, engineers evolve the integrating element that links sensors and weapons and synchronizes operations for layered defense. The teams are hiring Senior (Level 5-6) Systems Engineers across disciplines including Systems Architecture, Requirements and Interfaces; Systems Integration, Verification, & Validation; and Modeling and Simulation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology (including Manufacturing Technology), Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry or non-US equivalent qualifications directly related to the work statement.
  • 12 or more years' related engineering experience.
  • Prior experience in system engineering (e.g. Systems, Design, Architecture, Integration, Requirements or Test).
  • Leadership experience to include but not limited to engineering leadership roles and/or leading work and driving teams to success.
  • Active U.S. Secret Security Clearance (U.S. Citizenship Required). (A U.S. Security Clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active).

Nice To Haves

  • Level 6: 18 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience with missile-defense mission context, especially command & control, battle management, and communications.
  • Requirements analysis & verification experience.
  • Requirements and architecture development for complex systems/system-of-systems experience.
  • Experience using MBSE / requirements tools such as Cameo, DOORS, or similar.
  • Experience leading architecture / requirements trade studies.
  • Experience supporting/driving integration and test, including executing and documenting test events.
  • Experience developing/tailoring I&T processes, tools, and metrics.
  • Experience evaluating results against requirements (verification evidence/artifacts).
  • Experience working across multiple stakeholders/teams, especially MDA-like environments.
  • Scripting/programming for test/tool support (Python, MATLAB, Java, or similar).
  • Experience performing system/performance analysis or trade studies (e.g., operational/feasibility analysis, MOEs/TPMs).
  • Experience developing/using modeling and simulation tools to predict performance.
  • Experience with modeling missile-defense or related engagement domains.
  • Scripting/programming for analysis tools (Python, MATLAB, Java, or similar).
  • Ability to communicate results clearly to support decisions with technical and nontechnical stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute across mission assessment, architecture, requirements, Model-based Systems Engineering (MBSE), integration, and test, often with direct collaboration across Boeing, industry partners, and government stakeholders.
  • Define and evolve the MDA/C2BMC system architecture.
  • Develop and maintain requirements and architecture artifacts (including interface definitions) to support missile defense capabilities.
  • Run and support architecture and requirements trade studies to recommend options that improve mission performance, cost/schedule, and technical feasibility.
  • Own and improve the requirements management engine: planning, organizing, implementing, and monitoring of requirements processes and tools (including traceability, change control, and quality).
  • Lead program-level risks/issues/opportunities tracking and technology readiness assessments as they relate to architecture and requirements decisions.
  • Collaborate frequently with MDA, warfighters, and industry partners to align requirements, interfaces, and system priorities.
  • Lead cross-functional teams in developing products and interacting with government customers.
  • Plan and execute integration and checkout work – define tasks, schedule them, assign work, monitor completion, and keep the integration plan moving.
  • Evaluate results from integration/checkout activities and determine whether they meet checkout requirements so the team can proceed to the next stage.
  • Define and drive the overall integration and test (I&T) strategy (processes, tools, and metrics) to ensure we verify requirements effectively and consistently.
  • Execute and document integration and test events, including capturing results, issues, and evidence needed for verification.
  • Partner with integration/test SMEs to solve complex system problems spanning process, tools, regulations, and system-specific issues.
  • Identify and implement tool/process improvements that reduce friction and increase throughput (automation, reporting, repeatable workflows).
  • Lead cross-functional teams in developing products and interacting with government customers.
  • Evaluate system performance across realistic scenarios and architectures to provide mission insight used by MDA and warfighters.
  • Build and maintain analysis tools across multiple levels of fidelity, including modeling and simulation that predicts performance against evolving threats.
  • Perform system and performance trade studies (mission effectiveness, architecture comparisons, “what-if” analyses) to inform technical decisions.
  • Develop and improve modeling approaches to ensure results are credible, repeatable, and decision-useful (assumptions, data handling, validation/verification of models).
  • Use modeling, simulation, and quantitative methods to provide technical leadership and recommendations in assigned focus areas.

Benefits

  • Competitive base pay and variable compensation opportunities.
  • Opportunity to enroll in a variety of benefit programs, generally including health insurance, flexible spending accounts, health savings accounts, retirement savings plans, life and disability insurance programs, and a number of programs that provide for both paid and unpaid time away from work.
  • Best in class 401(k) plan: we'll match your contributions dollar for dollar, up to 10% of eligible pay with Immediate 100% vesting.
  • The Boeing 401(k) Student Loan Match allows eligible enrolled U.S. employees to have their qualified student loan debt payments counted, along with any match-eligible contributions they make, for purposes of determining the Company Match to employees' Boeing 401(k) accounts.
