About The Position

Innovative Defense Technologies (IDT) is seeking a Systems Engineer to be part of our team and based out of our Mount Laurel, NJ location. You will contribute to the design and development of complex, AWS-hosted, real-time processing systems. You will collaborate closely with senior engineers to evolve system architectures, develop software, and apply advanced systems modeling techniques to support mission-critical defense applications. All applicants must be able to obtain/maintain an active Secret U.S. Security Clearance. This is an on-site position. Requiring at least 5 days in office, based out of our Mount Laurel, NJ location.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Physics, or Mathematics, or equivalent full-time professional experience.
  • 3+ years of full-time professional experience in System Engineering, or related technical roles.
  • Ability to travel up to 10% of the time, as needed
  • Strong programming proficiency in C++ and Java.
  • Solid foundation in real-time processing concepts and makefile systems.
  • Familiarity with systems engineering and modeling concepts, including experience utilizing MATLAB.
  • Strong willingness to learn complex new domains, such as defense architectures and probabilistic performance measures.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience with the Aegis combat system is highly desired, especially for mid-to-senior candidates to support the team, though training will be provided for the right candidate.
  • Knowledge of probabilistic combat system performance measures (PK, PES, PSI, and CK).
  • Familiarity with software certification principles and the use of AI agents for recompiling tasks.
  • Hands-on experience developing and deploying software in AWS-centric environments.

Responsibilities

  • Execute complex system stress tests and utilize MATLAB to model and evaluate weapons systems.
  • Calculate, analyze, and evaluate probabilistic combat system performance measures (such as PK, PES, PSI, and CK), particularly for live fire and Aegis-related scenarios.
  • Navigate, test, and validate within a real-time, event-based architecture that utilizes DDS RTI (Data Distribution Service Real-Time Innovations) and UDP communications (e.g., Sigpro SPY.
  • Ensure software meets rigorous certification standards and validation processes.
  • Participate in the ongoing testing and rearchitecting of the system as the program evolves.
  • (For mid-to-senior roles) Provide guidance, support, and domain knowledge transfer to junior engineering staff.
