About The Position

ICF is seeking an experienced Systems Engineer to support the design, implementation, operation, and maintenance of enterprise network infrastructure supporting critical federal programs. The Systems Engineer will be responsible for ensuring the reliability, availability, performance, and security of network hardware, operating systems, and communication infrastructure. This role requires strong technical expertise in network engineering, systems administration, troubleshooting, and infrastructure modernization within complex enterprise environments. This position is remote and requires that the job be performed in the United States. If you accept this position, you should note that ICF monitors employee work locations and blocks access from foreign locations/foreign IP addresses and prohibits personal VPN connections. Our core work hours are 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM Eastern Time, with flexibility to start earlier or work later depending on your time zone. Please note that project meetings may occasionally begin before 10:00 AM Eastern to accommodate client requirements. Limited travel may be required for customer meetings, infrastructure deployments, or team collaboration.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Computer Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • 8+ years of experience supporting enterprise network infrastructure and systems engineering.
  • US citizenship is required by government agency.
  • Candidate must be able to obtain and maintain the required government security clearance.
  • Candidate must reside in the U.S., be authorized to work in the U.S., and all work must be performed in the U.S.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience configuring, administering, and troubleshooting network hardware and operating systems.
  • Experience supporting enterprise voice and data communication networks.
  • Strong understanding of TCP/IP networking, routing, switching, and network communication protocols.
  • Experience diagnosing and resolving complex infrastructure and communication issues.
  • Experience supporting infrastructure implementation, upgrades, and technology refresh initiatives.
  • Hands-on experience with: Enterprise network infrastructure design and administration, TCP/IP networking and communication protocols, Routing and switching technologies, Windows Server and Linux operating systems, Network monitoring and performance management tools, Network diagnostic and troubleshooting tools, DNS, DHCP, VPN, and firewall technologies, Virtualization technologies (VMware, Hyper-V, or similar), Cloud networking (AWS, Microsoft Azure, and/or Google Cloud Platform), Infrastructure automation and scripting (PowerShell, Python, Bash, or similar), Network security best practices and system hardening.
  • Experience supporting Federal Government IT infrastructure is preferred.
  • Industry certifications such as Cisco CCNA/CCNP, CompTIA Network+, Security+, Microsoft, VMware, or equivalent certifications are highly desirable.
  • Experience supporting highly available, mission-critical enterprise environments.
  • Familiarity with ITIL processes and infrastructure lifecycle management.
  • Experience participating in disaster recovery, business continuity, and infrastructure resilience planning.
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills with the ability to diagnose and resolve complex technical issues.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and support critical operational environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with multidisciplinary technical teams.
  • Commitment to delivering reliable, secure, and high-performing enterprise infrastructure.
  • Experience supporting remote or hybrid operational teams is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise, coordinate, and perform additions, upgrades, and changes to enterprise network hardware, operating systems, and connected devices.
  • Investigate, analyze, recommend, configure, install, and test new network hardware, software, and infrastructure components.
  • Provide day-to-day operational support for enterprise network infrastructure and operating systems.
  • Monitor system utilization, network performance, and response times to ensure optimal system availability.
  • Diagnose and resolve complex network, communications, and infrastructure issues.
  • Troubleshoot network connectivity at both the physical and logical layers using network measurement tools and diagnostic software.
  • Perform hardware testing, configuration validation, and communication protocol analysis.
  • Participate in the planning, design, technical review, implementation, and deployment of new network infrastructure and operating systems.
  • Support voice and data communication networks, ensuring reliable and secure network services.
  • Maintain network infrastructure standards, configurations, and documentation.
  • Configure, monitor, and support TCP/IP networking and other enterprise communication protocols.
  • Collaborate with cybersecurity, systems administration, and engineering teams to ensure secure network operations.
  • Provide technical consultation, mentoring, training, and operational support to IT staff as directed.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation, network diagrams, standard operating procedures, and system configurations.
  • Support infrastructure modernization, performance optimization, and continuous improvement initiatives.
