Department 705 On-site Engineering is an integral part of Electric Boat's Planning Yard businesses, providing mission-ready submarines through overhaul, repair, maintenance, modernization, alterations, and improvements. D705 engineers offer non-nuclear deck-plate engineering support for maintenance and alteration activities on submarines at Bangor, WA, and Puget Sound Naval Shipyard. This includes planning, execution, and certification of work. D705 routinely develops technical work documents, provides technical direction and oversight, and evaluates shipboard conditions. The department is a multi-discipline group of mechanical, structural, and electrical engineers operating collaboratively in a dynamic, team-oriented manner. Using a design-build approach, D705 interfaces with Operations, Design, Planning Yard, Test, and Program Office personnel to find innovative solutions to complex problems. Interaction with the United States Navy customer, including the Supervisor of Shipbuilding, Naval Sea Systems Command, and submarine crews, is typical. D705 Engineering supports maintenance and alteration activities for submarines at Bangor, WA, and Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, including the development and updating of Selected Record Drawings (SRDs). Tasks involve incorporating alterations into SRDs, reviewing SRD products for quality, accuracy, completeness, drawing impacts, and discrepancies between hulls. The engineer provides direction and sets priorities for two SRD Analysts in developing NCSRDs and red-line drawings. This role coordinates and tracks SRD efforts between EB Groton, IMF Bangor, TRF Kings Bay, Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, and the D705 EOH group, ensuring red-line copies of applicable SRDs are available during ship overhaul and are routed correctly for review and markup. This engineering position will research alteration DDPs and develop detailed change inputs for drafting NCSRDs and SRD red-lines.
