About The Position

JTEKT’s North American System Engineering Group, based at its Technical Center in Plymouth, Michigan, is seeking an engineer to support the expansion of engineering analysis and simulation capabilities. The role involves working on advanced mechatronic and mechanical systems and developing internal and external simulation capabilities. It requires strong engineering fundamentals, analytical problem-solving, simulation experience, continuous learning, and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams across North America and global engineering centers. The engineer supports system and component development through design analysis, simulation, validation, and structured problem-solving. The role also contributes to simulation tools, best practices, standards, and resources; prepares and reviews engineering deliverables; analyzes test and simulation results; and works with automotive OEMs, suppliers, development partners, and global teams. The position follows a hybrid schedule, with office and laboratory attendance based on project requirements. Work is primarily in an office with extensive computer use, with occasional laboratory or manufacturing work and limited periodic domestic and international travel.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
  • 2–5 years of experience in product design, development, engineering analysis, or simulation.
  • Experience with system modeling, characterization, or simulation.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and presentation communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills, including the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Positive attitude, strong initiative, and commitment to continuous learning and professional development.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with ANSYS or equivalent simulation software is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of one or more of the following: GD&T, tolerance stack-up analysis, CAD software such as CATIA or Siemens NX/Unigraphics, finite element analysis, failure mode and effects analysis, or product validation and testing methodologies.
  • Desire to expand technical expertise in advanced analysis methods.

Responsibilities

  • Support technical activities for system and component development, including design analysis, simulation, validation, and structured problem-solving.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to develop solutions for mechanical and mechatronic systems.
  • Perform linear and nonlinear simulations of components, subsystems, and complete assemblies.
  • Research emerging tools and technologies, document best practices, and develop internal engineering standards and resources to expand simulation capabilities.
  • Create, review, and release product specifications, engineering documentation, project schedules, and technical reports to meet or exceed customer and program requirements.
  • Provide technical guidance on CAD models, engineering drawings, bills of materials, and design documentation, including DVP&Rs, DFMEAs, and DRBFMs.
  • Analyze engineering test data, simulation results, product evaluations, and validation reports to identify design improvements and reduce risk.
  • Work with automotive OEMs, suppliers, development partners, and global engineering teams to execute program objectives.
  • Support benchmark studies and industry research to identify market trends, competitive technologies, and future product opportunities.
  • Ensure engineering deliverables are completed on schedule and aligned with project milestones.
  • Participate in collaborations with universities, professional organizations, and industry partners.
  • Participate in global meetings that may occasionally require early-morning or evening communication with international engineering teams.
  • Attend the office and laboratory according to project requirements.
  • Travel domestically and internationally periodically as required; travel expectations are limited.
