The role focuses on system-level integration of electronic payloads across hardware, firmware, and software. The engineer will connect the payload team with Electrical Engineering, FPGA, and Firmware disciplines to define, integrate, and validate the complex electronic systems used in Turion’s technologies. The position may involve access to technology or software source code subject to U.S. export controls. Applicants must meet the specified U.S. citizenship, permanent residency, refugee, or asylee criteria, or be eligible to obtain the required authorizations. The salary range is $125,000–$175,000 USD. Employees may be asked to support alternate or extended shifts and travel during peak work periods. Full-time employees are eligible for the listed compensation and benefits package.

Requirements

  • 3 to 6+ years of experience in systems engineering, electrical engineering, embedded systems, or a closely related multidisciplinary field.
  • Ability to analyze systems beyond the component layer and understand how firmware architectures affect hardware performance and vice versa.
  • Familiarity with Python, C/C++, or MATLAB for data analysis, hardware automation, or system modeling.
  • Strong familiarity with embedded systems concepts, microcontrollers, FPGA development workflows, and low-level firmware/software architectures.
  • Experience with electro-optical (EO/IR) payloads, sensor integration, or camera systems.
  • Working knowledge of digital electronics, power budgeting, and communication protocols such as SPI, I2C, UART, PCIe, Ethernet, or High-Speed SerDes.
  • Exceptional communication and collaboration skills, including translating complex concepts between hardware engineers and low-level software developers and providing stakeholder status updates.
  • Proficiency with systems engineering tracking tools such as Jama, DOORS, or Jira to maintain traceability between high-level requirements and firmware/hardware specifications.
  • Must meet applicable U.S. export-control eligibility requirements or be eligible to obtain required authorizations.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in aerospace, robotics, defense, or high-reliability consumer electronics.
  • Experience interfacing EE, FPGA, and Firmware with optical hardware.
  • Experience developing automated test scripts, such as Python or PyTest, or frameworks for HITL validation and continuous integration.
  • Familiarity with Real-Time Operating Systems (RTOS) or embedded Linux architectures and their constraints on hardware resource allocation.
  • Hands-on experience using high-speed oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and protocol analyzers to debug hardware-to-firmware communication boundaries.

Responsibilities

  • Drive system-level thinking across integrated software, firmware, and electronics to ensure payload architectures meet functional, performance, and reliability requirements.
  • Bridge the payload team and EE, FPGA, and Firmware disciplines, translating high-level system requirements into actionable hardware and software specifications.
  • Document and manage Interface Control Documents (ICDs) for data links, power distribution, and command/control telemetry.
  • Collaborate on, document, and track hardware-in-the-loop (HITL) testing, board-level bring-up strategies, and payload integration test plans to validate and de-risk electronic subsystems.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary troubleshooting and root-cause analysis of complex anomalies at the intersection of hardware, firmware, and software.

Benefits

  • Company stock/equity in Turion Space.
  • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage for employees and their dependents.
  • 401(k) plan with a 3% employer direct contribution.
  • Vacation days, personal days, sick days, and holidays.
  • Paid parental leave following the birth of a newborn or adoption.
  • No-cost Employee Assistance Program (EAP) for employees and their households.
  • Internal training, workshops, and courses for professional development.
