About The Position

Systems engineering is a cross-functional engineering discipline centered on an approach, mindset, and process. All activities that consider both the business and the technical needs of the customers with the goal of providing a quality product that meets the user's needs. The discipline that executes a robust process of design, creation, and optimization of systems, consisting of identification and quantification of system requirements, creation of alternate system design concepts, performance of design trade studies, selection and implementation of the best designs and verification that the design is properly integrated and executed. Process that proceeds from concept to production to operation. Impacts quality of own work and the work of others on the team. Executes standard operational/technical tasks typically subject to instructions and work routines. There is latitude to rearrange the sequence to complete task/duties based on changing work situations. The Services Instrumentation and Controls C10 / C35.6 systems engineer is responsible for designing, developing and testing Instrumentation and Control (I&C) platforms and systems that control safety critical functions for the BWRX-300 Small Module Reactor. This role requires technical problem solving, requirements management, and effective communication/collaboration with other teams and engineering disciplines.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Computer Engineering from an accredited university or college.
  • 2 years experience in systems engineering for highly regulated industry.
  • Eligibility Requirements For US - This role requires access to U.S. export-controlled information. If applicable, final offers will be contingent on ability to obtain authorization for access to U.S. export-controlled information from the U.S. Government.
  • For Canada GE will only employ those who are legally authorized to work in Canada for this opening.
  • For Canada - This position will report onsite to the Markham office 3 days a week.

Nice To Haves

  • Instrumentation and Controls system and / or platform systems engineering experience.
  • Nuclear system engineering experience.
  • Boiling Water Reactor / Small Module Reactor design experience.
  • Solves technical challenges through application of common design patterns and identifying appropriate patterns for use in problem solving.
  • Experience with typical engineering project design methods from requirements definition through confirmation testing of final design.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills and ability to articulate clearly.
  • Contributes to creative solutions and challenges status quo.
  • Proactively learns new tools and identifies opportunities for improvement and promotes their adoption.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts component and product integration. All activities that span multiple components and products and are concerned with how to integrate for maximum performance and operability.
  • Manages product and systems requirements, specifications and flow down.
  • Drives validation and verification activities for the overall product/system, including system level testing.
  • Responsible for defining product requirements for the module / component / subcontractors and partners teams.
  • Manages interface between components and execution organizations.
  • Responsible for driving CTQ / Risk trades within the teams designing the components.
  • Manages the overall product configuration and configuration control system.
  • Broadening knowledge of own technical discipline to execute policy/strategy.
  • May include support roles with specialized technical field of knowledge; still acquiring higher level knowledge and skills.
  • Basic understanding of key business drivers; uses this understanding to accomplish own work.
  • Good understanding of how work of own team integrates with other teams and contributes to the area.
  • May have some autonomy to make decisions within a defined framework.
  • Resolves issues in situations that require good technical knowledge and judgment within established procedures.
  • Consults more senior team members for issues outside of defined instructions/parameters.
  • A job at this level requires good interpersonal skills and may be required to lead a junior team.
  • For customer facing roles, develops strong customer relationships and serves as the interface between customer and GE.
  • Explains technical information to others.
