Our employees are not only part of history, they're making history. Northrop Grumman’s Space Systems Sector is seeking a Systems Engineer – Level 5 to join our team in Redondo Beach, CA. Please be aware that this position is contingent upon the candidate obtaining final clearances and program access(es) within a reasonable period of time as determined by the company. Continued employment thereafter will be subject to maintenance at the level of clearance and program access required for the position in the future. The team is looking for a Senior Hardware/Electrical Integration Engineer to support the Space Vehicle Testbed (SVTB) team. The selected candidate is expected to support hardware and electrical integration for the Space Vehicle Testbeds test facility that provides a high fidelity, hardware-in-the-loop, real-time, closed-loop simulation of a space vehicle that leverages product line bus heritage. This representation of the space vehicle demands integration of a hybrid Engineering Model (EM) and software simulation design, Bus Flight Software, Databases (MCTDb & DSATs), Vehicle Dynamics Simulator (VDS), Communication Payload (CPL), Mission Payload (MPL), Engineering Ground Support Equipment, ground element workstations, and flight-like harnessing (TT&C and EM-to-EM interfaces). The final design will be applied to meet compatibility testing and flight software validation objectives that are crucial for meeting mission needs and addressing accommodation challenges for the broader Electrical Systems and Flight Software organizations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) discipline with 12+ years of engineering experience OR Master's degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) discipline with 10+ years of engineering experience OR PhD in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) discipline with 8+ years of engineering experience
  • Candidate must have an active U.S. Government Secret security clearance (or equivalent) at time of application and prior to start date. Continued employment thereafter will be subject to maintenance at the level of clearance and program access required for the position in the future.
  • Experience with common spacecraft subsystem hardware and/or models as well as test support equipment (ACS, AFM, EGSE, EPS, FSW, C&DH, TCS, etc.)

Responsibilities

  • Candidate must have a sound foundation in mechanical and/or electrical engineering.
  • The Sr. Hardware/Electrical Engineer is primarily responsible for the design and maintenance of the testbed facility, managing the setup and configuration of the testbed, procuring parts, managing fabrication, and supporting test engineering objectives inclusive of V&V test execution and analyzing and troubleshooting anomalous behavior in hardware systems.
  • Experience in hardware integration and management as well as Verification & Validation testing for testbeds or Assembly, Integration, and Test (AI&T) required.
  • Ownership over the testbed hardware design, directly collaborating with the Space Vehicle Testbed Sub-Project Manager to assess ECRs (Engineering Change Request) flowed through Engineering Review Board (ERB) for impacts, define solution trade space, and lead solution implementation.
  • Experience in technical leadership inclusive of technical baseline management and execution of major technical reviews.
  • Demonstrate decisiveness and ability to make sound technical judgments and recommendations with limited information.
  • Ability to motivate and guide teams and activities without having formal “ownership” of the staff supporting those activities.
  • Experience engaging directly with internal and external technical and programmatic stakeholders.
  • Perform system integration as well as verification and validation (V&V).
  • Exhibit proficiency in electrical hardware troubleshooting.
  • Exhibit proficiency in software scripting and debugging in DSATS (Direct Support Automatic Test Systems) and Python.
  • Lead configuration of the Testbed Facility.
  • Oversee procurement, fabrication, and manufacturing of parts.
