About The Position

Garrett Advancing Motion is a pioneer in automotive powertrain technologies with over 60 years of experience, leading in technology solutions for passenger cars, commercial vehicles, and off-highway equipment. The company supplies technology to major automakers and the global aftermarket. This role offers the opportunity to develop next-generation products and technologies for the HVAC industry. As an individual contributor in the E-Cooling business unit, the Senior System Engineer will drive key activities related to HVAC products, including centrifugal refrigerant compressors and variable frequency drives. This role involves customer and supplier interaction, system design guidance, platform strategy development, certification activities, risk analysis, and supporting system architecture and integration.

Requirements

  • Minimum of Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering with an emphasis on Air conditioning and refrigeration systems
  • 5+ years of experience in HVAC industry with focus on refrigerant compressors.
  • Product launch and certification experience (UL and CE)
  • Deep understanding of key product standards like EN 378, UL 60335-2-34, UL 60335-2-40, UL 61800-5-1 and UL 61800-5-2.
  • Prior experience with requirements management.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and negotiate solutions with electrical/mechanical and systems engineering.
  • Understanding of project management.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills.

Responsibilities

  • Own the requirements and specifications of the HVAC products like the centrifugal refrigerant compressor including the variable frequency drive.
  • Interface with customers and suppliers for system needs and design specifications.
  • Guide system design considering tradeoffs between key product values and cost.
  • Drive platform strategies by identifying common requirements across multiple applications.
  • Drive certification activities for HVAC products.
  • Perform risk analysis for the refrigerant system, and refrigerant compressor systems.
  • Support the development of System Architecture for our electrical products.
  • Support the analysis of System working with the Quality, Functional Safety, and Design teams (FMEAs, FTAs, etc.)
  • Support the development of the system integration and validation plans.
  • Author User Guides for our products to provide to internal and external customers.
  • Manage technical issues and coordinate through definition of problem statement, root cause analysis, and solution implementation with customer and all cross functional teams.
  • Participate in supplier panel selection, supplier development, and collaborate on supplier strategies.
